HOUSTON (AP) — In a series where their shots weren't falling like normal, the Houston Rockets managed to close it out with some tough defense.

MINNEAPOLIS (AP) — After going 2 for 12 from the field in the first half, the shot that turned the tide for Donovan Mitchell was a free throw following a technical foul in the third quarter.
Forget the fact he missed it.
Mitchell said he was buoyed by the fact that Ricky Rubio, who usually shoots technical free throws, told him to take the shot instead.
Jazz mascot nets bat on court before game vs. Timberwolves
SALT LAKE CITY (AP) — It took a bear — Jazz Bear — to catch a bat and leave the high-flying hijinks to the NBA players.
A wayward bat flew around the court inside the Vivint Smart Home Arena about an hour before Utah's game against the Minnesota Timberwolves on Friday, interrupting the pregame shooting routines of the likes of Jazz stars Donovan Mitchell and Ricky Rubio.
Jazz dominate from perimeter, top Nuggets 114-108
SALT LAKE CITY (AP) — Once Utah got warmed up on the perimeter, Denver couldn't do anything to cool the Jazz.
The long-distance barrage kept the Nuggets on their heels for the better part of four quarters and allowed Utah to scratch out a 114-108 win Wednesday night. Utah made 13 3-pointers before halftime - a franchise record for any half - and finished 19-of-46 (.413) from 3-point range.
Mitchell dominates, Jazz beat Lakers 113-95
SALT LAKE CITY (AP) — The Utah Jazz played without point guards Ricky Rubio, Dante Exum and Raul Neto because of injuries, and it was no big deal.
Not with Donovan Mitchell showing off his ball-handling skills.
Mitchell had 33 points and a career-high nine assists, helping Utah beat the Los Angeles Lakers 113-95 on Friday night. The second-year guard helped make up for his missing teammates with a flurry of game-changing plays on both ends of the court.
Mitchell scores 33 points, Jazz rally to beat Magic
SALT LAKE CITY (AP) — Donovan Mitchell didn't let a nightmarish start for Utah slow him down after halftime.
Mitchell took over the Jazz's offense, hitting several critical baskets and setting up others to help spark a second-half rally that gave his team a 106-93 victory over Orlando on Wednesday night.
Jazz rally past Pistons, then hold on late for 110-105 win
DETROIT (AP) — Donovan Mitchell was having a quiet game offensively when he was pulled less than three minutes into the third quarter.
"I wasn't doing enough on either end," the Utah star said.
That changed in a hurry. Mitchell would eventually return and score 24 of his 26 points in the second half, and the Jazz outlasted the Detroit Pistons 110-105 on Saturday night. Utah rallied from an 18-point, second-quarter deficit.
Leonard scores career best 45, Raptors beat Jazz 122-116

Rubio scores 24 as Jazz beat Trail Blazers 120-90
PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) — After struggling early amid high expectations, the Utah Jazz feel like they're finding their rhythm once again.
Ricky Rubio had 24 points and eight assists to lead the Utah Jazz to a 120-90 win over the Portland Trail Blazers on Friday night. Kyle Korver scored 18 points and Jae Crowder added 16 as the two combined to shoot 7 for 14 on 3-pointers.
Rubio gets Jazz off and running in 133-112 win over Kings
SACRAMENTO, Calif. (AP) — A little film study went a long way for Ricky Rubio and helped Utah keep its long winning streak in Sacramento going.
Even with leading scorer Donovan Mitchell sitting out with bruised ribs.
Rubio scored 23 of his 27 points in the first half, Rudy Gobert had 18 points and 15 rebounds and the Jazz beat the Kings 133-112 on Sunday.
Gobert, Rubio dominate as Jazz tops Pelicans, 132-111
NEW ORLEANS (AP) — When Ricky Rubio learned he wouldn't have to worry about Anthony Davis guarding the paint for the Pelicans, the Jazz point guard figured he better look for Utah big-man Rudy Gobert at the rim whenever possible.
"I was looking more to that than anything else," Rubio said, adding that when New Orleans' defense collapsed on Gobert, he was able to take advantage of that as well.
HOUSTON (AP) — Utah Jazz point guard Ricky Rubio will miss Game 1 of the Western Conference semifinals against the Houston Rockets because of a strained left hamstring.
Rubio left Friday night's game against the Thunder in the first quarter with the injury. The team says it does not know how long he will be out, but coach Quin Snyder said after Friday's game he hoped it wasn't too serious. He said the injury "caught up with him a little bit" in a "tough series."
Rubio leaves Utah’s game with left hamstring injury
SALT LAKE CITY (AP) — Ricky Rubio left Game 6 of Utah's playoff series against Oklahoma City with a left hamstring injury and the Jazz said he would not return.
Rubio departed with just under 5 minutes remaining in the first quarter. He missed his only shot but had three assists.
The point guard from Spain was having a strong series, averaging 16.8 points, 8.6 rebounds and 7.8 assists entering Friday. He had a triple-double in Utah's Game 3 victory.
OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) — Russell Westbrook unleashed the same fury he had in Game 4, just a little more efficiently this time.
Westbrook was controlled, and he was too much for Utah. Silent and serious, the reigning league MVP scored 33 of his 45 points in the second half, and the Oklahoma City Thunder rallied from 25 points down to fight off elimination and beat the Jazz 107-99 in Game 5 on Wednesday night.
OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) — A poised and productive Ricky Rubio has been smiling and laughing, masterfully running Utah's offense in his matchup with Oklahoma City's Russell Westbrook.
Meanwhile, the reigning league MVP has been scowling, shoving, fouling, complaining and most of all — losing.
It's fair to say Rubio has been more effective for the Jazz.
The Rubio-Westbrook matchup mirrors what is happening throughout the NBA playoffs: The team that gets the best point guard play usually wins.
Russell Westbrook is averaging a triple-double, so he gets plenty of attention. Ricky Rubio just had a triple-double , earning him some time in the headlines. Donovan Mitchell has been great in his first three playoff games, so the fascination with the rookie star is only growing.
Ricky Rubio’s triple-double fuels Utah Jazz to Game 3 win over Oklahoma City
SALT LAKE CITY — Ricky Rubio had 26 points, 11 rebounds and 10 assists for Utah's first playoff triple-double in 17 years, and Donovan Mitchell added 22 points to lead the Jazz to a 115-102 win over the Oklahoma City Thunder on Saturday night and a 2-1 lead in their first-round series.
Rubio’s triple-double leads Jazz past Thunder 115-102
SALT LAKE CITY (AP) — Ricky Rubio waited seven years for a night like this.
Rubio, who never reached the playoffs in his first six seasons with Minnesota, had 26 points, 11 rebounds and 10 assists for Utah's first playoff triple-double in 17 years to help lead the Jazz to a 115-102 win over the Oklahoma City Thunder on Saturday night.
Suddenly, the Timberwolves locker room is filling with nicknames. One teammate was calling Karl-Anthony Towns Jebediah after Towns described himself as Amish-like. The Wolves have Jimmy Buckets, J Crossover and now a new contender:
Jeffs game thrives off emotion, Jamal Crawford said. Dont let that smooth taste fool you.
It had been 14 years since the Minnesota Timberwolves played host to a playoff game. They have found their point guards to be less filling for almost that long.
Rubio scores 31, leads Jazz past Lakers 117-110
SALT LAKE CITY (AP) — Passing the ball isn't the only role for Ricky Rubio these days. Rubio has remade himself into a true scoring threat with the Utah Jazz.
Rubio scored 31 points on 10-of-15 shooting, and added eight assists and six rebounds, to lift the Jazz to a 117-110 win over the Los Angeles Lakers on Tuesday night.
Ricky Rubio, Utah
The Timberwolf who once couldnt shoot straight came back and beat his former team with 9-for-14 shooting and 23 points. He made the first four three-pointers he shot and finished 5-for-6 from there. He has made at least five threes only two other times in his career.
When he traded away Ricky Rubio and chose free-agent Jeff Teague over Derrick Rose as his point guard, Tom Thibodeau, Timberwolves coach/president of basketball operations, cited Teague’s durability as one big reason why.
So on Sunday with playoff spots and positioning looming very large, Teague didn’t play against Utah because of a sore knee while Rubio returned to the Jazz’s starting lineup after one game away because of a sore hamstring.
MINNEAPOLIS (AP) — Ricky Rubio wasn't going to miss this game. Not back in Minnesota against his former team, and not with the Utah Jazz having a chance to improve their playoff position in the packed Western Conference.
Rubio, who was questionable before the game with sore left hamstring, scored 23 points and hit a season-high five 3-pointers as the Jazz beat the Timberwolves 121-97 on Sunday night.
Called a game-time decision whether hed even play or not, former Timberwolves point guard Ricky Rubio returned to Target Center Sunday and shot his Utah Jazz team to a lopsided 121-97 victory over his former team in just what might have been the biggest game this season for both teams.
With playoff spots and positioning on the line, Rubio made his first four three-point attempts, he shot 9-for-14 from the field and scored 23 points for a Jazz team that now is 25-5 in last 30 games.
The last time these two teams played, referees ejected Timberwolves starters Karl-Anthony Towns and Jeff Teague and Utahs Jaw Crowder, too, from a testy game that coach Tom Thibodeau still didnt deem tipped any scale.
That wasnt contentious, Thibodeau said then.
Lets see about Sunday night, when the Jazz comes to Target Center with the regular seasons end a month closer and the Western Conferences final playoff spots on the line.
