Ricky Skaggs, Dottie West enter Country Music Hall of Fame
NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) — Bluegrass and country star Ricky Skaggs, singer Dottie West and fiddler Johnny Gimble are the newest members of the Country Music Hall of Fame.
The three artists were inducted Sunday at the Hall of Fame and Museum in Nashville, Tennessee, in a ceremony featuring performances from Garth Brooks, Chris Stapleton, Connie Smith and Dierks Bentley.
Balsam Range win entertainer of the year at Bluegrass Awards
RALEIGH, N.C. (AP) — North Carolina-based Balsam Range won entertainer of the year at the International Bluegrass Music Awards in Raleigh and their band members Buddy Melton and Tim Surrett picked up individual awards for male vocalist and bass player of the year, respectively.

This year's Dollar Bank Three Rivers Arts Festival music lineup includes British pop, South American rhythms, funk, hip-hop and country.
And it all kicks off June 1 with legendary R&B/soul singer Mavis Staples. She provided the soundtrack to the Civil Rights movement in the 1960s with her family's band, The Staple Singers, according to a release. A member of the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, her past three albums have been critically acclaimed collaborations with Jeff Tweedy of Wilco.

Lawrence County, Ky., native Ricky Skaggs to be inducted into Country Music HoF
NASHVILLE - This fall, a bronze plaque depicting 15-time Grammy-Award-winning singer and musician Ricky Skaggs will be added to the Rotunda wall at the Country Music Hall of Fame and Museum in Nashville.
At a CMA-hosted press conference held Tuesday at the famed institution, Garth Brooks and Trisha Yearwood announced Skaggs, who is a native of Lawrence County, Ky., as one of three inductees for the Country Music Hall of Fame Class of 2018.
Bare to join Skaggs, Ferrell and Tolliver for concert in Portsmouth
PORTSMOUTH, Ohio — Country Music Hall of Fame member Bobby Bare is coming to Shawnee State University's Vern Riffe Center in Portsmouth, Ohio, on April 27 for a historic hometown concert with Ricky Skaggs, Rick Ferrell and Jacob Tolliver.
The goal of the concert is to raise money for a huge mural paying tribute to some of the many entertainers hailing from the area.

Tuesday morning in the rotunda of Nashville's Country Music Hall of Fame, Garth Brooks and Trisha Yearwood announced this year's inductees into the Hall of Fame: Ricky Skaggs, Dottie West and Johnny Gimble. Skaggs is in the modern category, West is in the veteran category, and Gimble is in the recording and/or touring musician category.
Country music journalist Hazel Smith dies at age 83
NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) — Country music journalist, publicist and songwriter Hazel Smith has died. She was 83.
Her granddaughter Tara Bruchas said she died at a Nashville hospital on Sunday.

Longtime country singer, songwriter Mel Tillis dies
NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) — Mel Tillis, the affable longtime country music star who wrote hits for Kenny Rogers, Ricky Skaggs and many others, and overcame a stutter to sing on dozens of his own singles, has died.
A spokesman for Tillis, Don Murry Grubbs, said Tillis died early Sunday at Munroe Regional Medical Center in Ocala, Florida. He was 85.
Grubbs said Tillis battled intestinal issues since 2016 and never fully recovered. The suspected cause of death is respiratory failure.
I just wanted to start off this week's music column by saying how heartbroken I am for the passing of sweet Kentucky songbird Jessica Lynn Baldridge.
Baldridge, who was 34, passed away unexpectedly at her home in Raceland, Kentucky, on Monday.
From a talented musical family, Baldridge had been on the scene since she was 13 performing with her family and that year winning first runner-up in the True Value Jimmy Dean Country Showdown.
Collector specializes in bluegrass memorabilia
DURHAM, N.C. (AP) — Jim Mills spent decades of his adult life on the road playing banjo with Doyle Lawson, Ricky Skaggs, Dolly Parton and other revered bluegrass acts. But the 50-year-old Mills has been a collector for even longer than that - his whole life going back to childhood, amassing everything from pocket knives to musical artifacts.

Ricky Skaggs, Chris Stapleton honored by ASCAP
NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) — Grammy-winning bluegrass and country artist Ricky Skaggs and bluegrass singer-turned-country star Chris Stapleton were honored at the ASCAP Country Music Awards on Monday night.
The performing rights organization honored their top country writers and singers during an awards show on Halloween night at the Ryman Auditorium featuring performances by Garth Brooks, Kelsea Ballerini and Trace Adkins.
Garth Brooks, Ricky Skaggs join Musicians Hall of Fame
NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) — Garth Brooks and his longtime studio band, "The G Men," bluegrass artist Ricky Skaggs, Eagles guitarist Don Felder, country artist Jerry Reed and the soul players Sigma Sound Studio Rhythm Section have been inducted into the Musicians Hall of Fame.

RICHMOND, Minn. (AP) — A Minnesota bluegrass festival celebrates its 40th anniversary next month.
The Minnesota Bluegrass & Old-Time Music Festival will be held Aug. 11-14 at El Rancho Manana (mah-NYAH'-nah) in Richmond.
