Israel refuses to let UN council visit Palestinian areas
UNITED NATIONS (AP) — Israel has refused to allow the U.N. Security Council to visit the territory that the Palestinians claim for a future independent state, U.N. diplomats said Wednesday.
Last week, the council authorized Its current president, Equitorial Guinea's U.N. Ambassador Anatolio Ndong Mba, to consult the Israel and Palestinian ambassadors about a trip.
Palestinian Ambassador Riyad Mansour immediately responded, saying a council visit would be viewed "in the most positive way."
Envoy says no UN membership for Palestinians now
UNITED NATIONS (AP) — The Palestinian ambassador at the United Nations said Monday that the day will come when "obstacles" in the Security Council to full U.N. membership for Palestine will be removed "but that day is not today."
The main hurdle is the United States, a veto-wielding Security Council member which insists that the only way Palestine can gain full membership in the United Nations is after negotiating a peace deal with Israel.
UN chief backs 2-state solution in talks with Palestinians
UNITED NATIONS (AP) — The United Nations says Secretary-General Antonio Guterres has met with Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas and stressed again that a two-state solution to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict is the only path to peace.
