Peterson signs, Kelley is still Redskins’ top running back
A slimmed-down Rob Kelley is likely to remain Washington's top running back even though Adrian Peterson is joining the Redskins.
Amid four injuries in their backfield, the Redskins signed the 33-year-old four-time All-Pro running back on Monday. But Kelley, the former "Fat Rob" who lost weight and added speed to his repertoire, should still be considered the front-runner to start Week 1 at the Arizona Cardinals.

ASHBURN, Va. (AP) — The Washington Redskins have signed four-time All-Pro running back Adrian Peterson.
The team announced the deal Monday after meeting with Peterson. Jamaal Charles and Orleans Darkwa also visited the Redskins the past two days after several injuries at the position, with the team opting to sign Peterson and De'Veon Smith.

Redskins hand ball to Perine as new No. 1 running back
ASHBURN, Va. (AP) — Fish Smithson still can't get the number 427 out of his head.
Being in the Washington Redskins' locker room with running back Samaje Perine is one constant reminder.
Smithson was a safety for Kansas in November 2014 when Oklahoma's Perine rushed for an NCAA-record 427 yards that still stands today.
"I remember him running all over us," Smithson said.
Redskins put RB Rob Kelley, LB Will Compton on IR
ASHBURN, Va. (AP) — The Washington Redskins have placed starting running back Rob Kelley and inside linebacker Will Compton on injured reserve.
The team announced several moves Tuesday, including signing free agent defensive lineman Caraun Reid and Philadelphia Eagles practice squad running back Byron Marshall.
Redskins slowly getting healthy with Vikings up next
As Rob Kelley began feeling some pain in his sprained right ankle, he thought about all the injuries his teammates were playing through.
"Everyone hurts," Kelley said. "So what are you going to do, keep playing or keep whining?"
SEATTLE | Seahawks coach Pete Carroll delivered that dreaded four-letter word in Washington: fade.
For Carroll, and for the opposition, for once, it was a word to lament. The biggest play of the day Sunday was a deep sideline fade to Redskins wide receiver Josh Doctson, who, in just his second season, has become intertwined with the word. It usually does not have a good connotation.
Cousins comes through late as Washington stuns Seattle 17-14
SEATTLE (AP) — The comeback by Kirk Cousins topped any late rally Russell Wilson tried to engineer, and suddenly injected some hope into Washington's season that was trending toward trouble.
Cousins drove Washington 70 yards in 35 seconds, capped by Rob Kelley's 1-yard touchdown run with less than a minute remaining, and the Redskins rallied late to stun the Seattle Seahawks 17-14 on Sunday.
SEATTLE -- Redskins coach Jay Gruden spent the entire week navigating a raft of injuries. The Redskins' offensive line is a mess and may have just one starter (Morgan Moses) able to play Sunday. Two tight ends are out. Jamison Crowder, Bashaud Breeland and Rob Kelley are questionable for Sunday.
Washington's flood of injuries has influenced the preparation of Seahawks coach Pete Carroll.
LANDOVER Redskins tight end Niles Paul will miss the remainder of Sunday's game against the Dallas Cowboys after suffering a concussion.
In the first quarter, Paul took a helmet-to-helmet hit with Cowboys linebacker Sean Lee on the goal line as Redskins running back Rob Kelley scored. Paul remained down in the end zone for several minutes, but was able to walk off.
The Redskins lead the Cowboys 10-7 with 13:46 left in the second quarter.
PHILADELPHIA Washington Redskins cornerback Bashaud Breeland will play Monday against the Philadelphia Eagles after being listed questionable with a knee injury.
Meanwhile, safety Deshazor Everett (hamstring) was announced inactive. Cornerback Josh Norman (rib) is out as well, but that's not a surprise, seeing as it was announced Saturday.
ASHBURN The Washington Redskins are getting healthier.
Redskins coach Jay Gruden said Friday that he expects running back Rob Kelley to play Monday against the Philadelphia Eagles. Starting cornerbacks Josh Norman and Bashaud Breeland, meanwhile, increased their workload in practice.
Kelley missed last week's game against the San Francisco 49ers with an ankle injury. Kelley, who also missed Week 3 with a ribs injury, has 131 yards in three games.

Redskins say Norman is week-to-week with fractured rib
WASHINGTON (AP) — The Washington Redskins say cornerback Josh Norman is week-to-week after fracturing a rib Monday night in a loss to the Kansas City Chiefs.
Coach Jay Gruden provided the update on Norman and other injured players during a conference call with reporters Tuesday. Norman said after the 29-20 loss that he fell awkwardly on the heel of someone's shoe and that it hurt to breathe.
The Redskins have a bye week coming up before hosting the San Francisco 49ers on Oct. 15.

Reed, Kelley and Foster out for Redskins vs. Raiders

Rodgers looks good, Cousins doesn’t; Packers top Skins 21-17
LANDOVER, Md. (AP) — Kirk Cousins and the rest of the Washington Redskins' first-team offense played the full first half Saturday night and did not look ready for prime time. Not at all.
"We stuttered and sputtered," coach Jay Gruden said, "and missed a few throws and had a couple runs rejected."
The Way We Hear It: Why RB Rob Kelley will be the starter in Washington for now
There was speculation that Washington drafting fourth-round running back Samaje Perine in April could lead to an unseating at the position, or at least a shift in power. But based on what a team source told Pro Football Weekly, Rob Kelley appears to be fairly locked in as the team’s starting running back.
