LAS VEGAS (AP) — The Cincinnati Reds have claimed left-hander Robby Scott off waivers from the Boston Red Sox.
The 29-year-old reliever was 0-1 over nine relief appearances and 6 2/3 innings for Boston this year. He was 3-3 with a 1.36 ERA in 45 games for Triple-A Pawtucket, striking out 63 in 48 1/3 innings.
Cincinnati announced the move Monday at the winter meetings.
CLEVELAND (AP) — The Boston Red Sox are trying to make history. The Cleveland Indians keep getting in the way.
And after a highly competitive three-game series, the teams could see each other again next month with even more at stake.
Greg Allen singled with one out and the bases loaded in the 11th inning and Cleveland defeated the Red Sox 4-3 on Sunday night to deny Boston's bid for a club-record 106th victory for the second straight game.
CHICAGO (AP) — The Boston Red Sox have activated left-hander Eduardo Rodriguez, catcher Christian Vazquez and knuckleballer Steven Wright from the 10-day disabled list.
Rodriguez had been sidelined by a sprained right ankle. Vazquez was out with a broken finger, and Wright had been dealing with left knee inflammation.
Rodriguez and Vazquez are slated to start Saturday's game against the Chicago White Sox. Rodriguez hasn't pitched in a big league game since July 14.
MINNEAPOLIS (AP) — Eduardo Escobar, yet again, gave the Minnesota Twins the go-ahead hit.
Two of them, of course. He's become a doubles machine.
With a two-base hit that drove in two runs off Chris Sale in the sixth inning and another that launched a four-run eighth, Escobar led for the Twins to a 6-2 victory over the Boston Red Sox on Tuesday night.
"I don't know if he can keep up that kind of torrid pace, but we're seeing a guy who is supremely confident," Twins manager Paul Molitor said.
NEW YORK (AP) — Red Sox second baseman Dustin Pedroia is back on the disabled list for the third time this year because of knee trouble, but manager John Farrell said there's no indication the Boston All-Star won't play again this season.
The AL East leaders put Pedroia on the 10-day DL with inflammation Saturday before taking on New York at Yankee Stadium. The move was retroactive to Thursday, and left-hander Robby Scott was recalled from Triple-A Pawtucket.
BOSTON (AP) — Red Sox pitcher David Price is going back on the 10-day disabled list with inflammation in his left elbow.
Boston announced the move ahead Price's scheduled start Friday night against Kansas City. Rick Porcello will start in Price's place. Eduardo Rodriguez will start Saturday and Drew Pomeranz on Sunday in the series finale.
TORONTO (AP) — Chris Sale pitched seven shutout innings to win his third straight decision, Xander Bogaerts had three RBIs and the Boston Red Sox beat the Toronto Blue Jays 7-1 on Saturday.
Sale (11-3) struck out 11, boosting his major league-leading total to 166. He's 2-0 with 24 strikeouts in 15 scoreless innings against the Blue Jays this season.
Blaine Boyer pitched the eighth and Robby Scott gave up Steve Pearce's solo home run in the ninth.
KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) — Salvador Perez hit his first career grand slam, connecting in the eighth inning to rally the Kansas City Royals over the Boston Red Sox 6-4 Wednesday.
The Royals have won nine of 11 and moved within a game of .500.
Perez homered over the Kansas City bullpen in left field on the ninth pitch from Robby Scott (0-1). With Boston leading 4-2, reliever Matt Barnes started the inning by walking Jorge Bonifacio and Lorenzo Cain on 12 pitches.
