Robinson Chirinos, Astros finalize $5.75M, 1-year contract
HOUSTON (AP) — Robinson Chirinos and the Astros have finalized a $5.75 million, one-year contract, giving catching-thin Houston another option behind the plate.
The 34-year-old spent the past six seasons with the Texas Rangers and hit .222 this year while setting career bests with 18 homers and 65 RBIs in 113 games. His .757 OPS was second among AL catchers.
He had a $2.25 million salary, and the Rangers declined a $4.5 million option that had a $100,000 buyout.
Rangers decline options on 4 players, Andrus stands pat
ARLINGTON, Texas (AP) — The Texas Rangers declined their 2019 options for catcher Robinson Chirinos and three pitchers on Friday, when their longest-tenured player stayed put.
While the Rangers had been expected to let pitchers Doug Fister, Matt Moore and Martin Perez become free agents, the decision on Chirinos was a bit of a surprise. Their primary starting catcher had a $4.5 million option for next season with a $100,000 buyout.
Chirinos’ 3 RBIs lead Rangers past Padres 6-3
SAN DIEGO (AP) — Robinson Chirinos and the Rangers broke through in the sixth inning, and the bullpen made that lead stand on a long work night for Texas' relievers.
Chirinos hit a three-run double and Isiah Kiner-Falefa followed with a pinch-hit RBI double during a five-run sixth inning to help the Rangers beat the San Diego Padres 6-3 on Saturday night.
Odor HR, Chirinos BB rally Rangers over Giants 7-6
SAN FRANCISCO (AP) — The potential final out bounced off Joe Panik's glove, and the San Francisco Giants couldn't recover after that.
Rougned Odor hit a tying two-run homer in the ninth inning, Robinson Chirinos drew a bases-loaded walk in the 10th and the Texas Rangers rallied from six runs down to beat San Francisco 7-6 on Friday night.
Record-setting Colon wins again as Rangers top D-backs 5-3
ARLINGTON, Texas (AP) — Bartolo Colon kept the Texas Rangers close after a rough first inning in his first start since setting the record for victories by a Latin American pitcher.
His catcher helped the 45-year-old right-hander extend that mark.
ARLINGTON, Texas (AP) — Rougned Odor keeps feeling better. Joey Gallo needed a break.
Odor hit his third career grand slam and Gallo and Robinson Chirinos had back-to-back homers in a seven-run fourth inning as the Texas Rangers beat the Baltimore Orioles 11-3 Friday night.
Odor has avoided saying he feels good throughout a hot streak since the All-Star break during which he has batted .404 (21 for 52) with six homers to raise his batting average 31 points to .270.
HOUSTON (AP) — The Texas Rangers capped a difficult day with a big win over their in-state rival on Friday night.
Robinson Chirinos hit a two-run homer and Isiah Kiner-Falefa and Jurickson Profar added solo shots as the Rangers romped to a lopsided 11-2 win over the Houston Astros on a day Texas dealt veteran left-hander Cole Hamels to the Cubs in what could be just the first of several moves to come.
ARLINGTON, Texas (AP) — Both of Cleveland's new relievers got into the game before the Indians closer had a rare blown save.
Manager Terry Francona had to go deep into his bullpen — using seven relievers after All-Star starter Trevor Bauer's early exit — before the big hitters in the heart of the lineup finally put Cleveland ahead to stay.
ARLINGTON, Texas (AP) — Shin-Soo Choo said he cares much more about getting on base multiple times each game than circling the bases.
Then, he proceeded to do both.
Choo reached base for the 41st straight game with a first-inning walk, tying the major league high this season, and also hit one of Texas' five Texas home runs in the first three innings of the Rangers' 11-3 victory over the Chicago White Sox on Friday night.

MINNEAPOLIS (AP) — Adrian Beltre has helped the Texas Rangers win a lot of games over the years. On Saturday, he found a surprising way to spark his team to its seventh straight victory.
Beltre and Robinson Chirinos homered to help Yovani Gallardo win for the first time since last July as the Texas Rangers beat the Minnesota Twins 9-6 on Saturday.
ARLINGTON, Texas (AP) — Father's Day was the crowning touch on rookie catcher Jose Trevino's wild week.
Trevino blooped a two-run single to left-center field, capping a four-run rally in the bottom of the ninth inning that sent the Texas Rangers over the Colorado Rockies 13-12 on Sunday.
He has been a father for only a week, and a major leaguer for three days.
ARLINGTON, Texas (AP) — Jose Trevino went from preparing for a game in Double-A to playing twice in less than 24 hours for the Texas Rangers, and delivering a tying RBI with his first big league hit.
The rookie catcher's single in the seventh inning tied Saturday's game against the Colorado Rockies, and 39-year-old active career hits leader Adrian Beltre put the Rangers ahead with a two-run triple in the eighth as they stopped a seven-game skid with a 5-2 victory.

Chirinos' tiebreaking two-run double in the seventh inning capped another late-inning rally, and the Rangers beat Seattle 7-6 on Wednesday.
Colon perfect into 8th, Rangers beat Astros 3-1 in 10
HOUSTON (AP) — Age is only a number and Bartolo Colon is evidence of that.
The 44-year-old pitcher carried a perfect game into the eighth and Robinson Chirinos drove in all three runs for the Texas Rangers during their 3-1 victory over the Houston Astros in 10 innings Sunday night.
"I don't ever think about what age I am or who is facing me," Colon said through a translator. "I always try to do my job and I always feel happy doing my job and that's what I think about."

ARLINGTON, Texas (AP) — Marco Estrada faded a bit before finishing another strong showing against the Texas Rangers.

ARLINGTON, Texas (AP) — Joey Gallo and Mike Napoli hit back-to-back homers and the Texas Rangers beat the Detroit Tigers 10-4 on Tuesday night to end Justin Verlander's three-game winning streak.
The Rangers had just gone ahead 2-1 on Nomar Mazara's RBI single in the fourth inning when Gallo hit his 34th homer, a towering drive that landed in the second deck of seats in right-center above the Texas bullpen and was estimated at 459 feet.
ARLINGTON, Texas (AP) — Rangers starter Tyson Ross has been put on the 10-day disabled list because of a blister on his right index finger.
Texas made the move Monday before the series opener against Miami to start a nine-game homestand. It was a day after Ross allowed five runs and four hits in 3 2/3 innings at Tampa Bay.
CLEVELAND (AP) — Indians manager Terry Francona watched his team's 2-1 loss Tuesday night on television after being released from the hospital.
