CHEYENNE, Wyo. (AP) — Wintry weather has closed Interstate 80 across much of Wyoming.
The road is closed in both directions from Rawlins to Rock Springs and eastbound from Evanston to U.S. 189. The Wyoming Department of Transportation says those sections of highway are unlikely to reopen until Thursday night.
Other roads closed due to snow and blowing snow include Wyoming 28 from Lander to Farson, Wyoming 789 north of Baggs, U.S. 287 north of Rawlins and U.S. 30 from Bosler to Walcott Junction.
Utah family rescued after plane runs out of fuel in Wyoming
ROCK SPRINGS, Wyo. (AP) — A Utah family, including 2-year-old twins and a 2-week-old infant, are safe and unharmed after their small plane ran out of fuel and landed in a snow-covered field in a remote area of southwest Wyoming.
The Sweetwater County Sheriff's Office says the family was rescued about 8:45 p.m. Monday by helicopter about three hours after the single-engine plane made an emergency landing while flying from Wayne, Nebraska, to Heber, Utah.
Snowy weather causes travel problems in southern Wyoming
CHEYENNE, Wyo. (AP) — Winter weather conditions closed sections of Interstate 80 in southern Wyoming for much of Friday.
The Wyoming Department of Transportation closed I-80 in both directions between Rawlins and Rock Springs.
That closure forced WYDOT to shut down westbound lanes between Cheyenne and Rawlins and eastbound lanes from Evanston to Rock Springs.
Wyoming lawmaker seeks to boost animal-cruelty fines
ROCK SPRINGS, Wyo. (AP) — A Wyoming lawmaker wants to raise the state's maximum penalties for cruelty to animals.
The crime currently is punishable by a fine up to $750 for a first-time misdemeanor and up to $5,000 for a repeat misdemeanor or felony offense.
Democratic state Sen. Mike Gierau (GAH'-roo) of Jackson, is sponsoring a bill to increase the fines to $2,500 for a misdemeanor and $10,000 for a repeat or felony conviction.
Rock Springs schools consider 4-day week, other options
ROCK SPRINGS, Wyo. (AP) — The Rock Springs school district will consider moving to a four-day school week, but officials say nothing has been decided.

Utility: Contaminants found beneath 3 Wyoming power plants
CASPER, Wyo. (AP) — A utility says groundwater beneath three coal-fired power plants in Wyoming has tested positive for certain contaminants.
The substances include arsenic and cadmium near the Dave Johnston power plant near Glenrock, lead and selenium at the Jim Bridger plant northeast of Rock Springs, and radium at the Naughton plant outside Kemmerer.
The toxins occurred beneath unlined coal-ash disposal ponds. Coal ash is a byproduct of burning coal in power plants.
