AIR FORCE ACADEMY, Colo. (AP) — Once D.J. Hammond got back in the game, he turned his first career start into a tour de force.
Hammond, sidelined early on after a helmet-to-helmet collision, returned to run for three touchdowns and throw for another, leading Air Force past Navy 35-7 on Saturday.
RENO, Nev. (AP) — Timothy McVey led three Air Force rushers with 100-plus yards and Luke Strebel kicked a 30-yard field goal as time expired to help Air Force beat Nevada 45-42 on Friday night.
McVey rushed for 139 yards, Ronald Cleveland had 118 yards on eight carries and Taven Birdow added 100 yards for Air Force (3-4, 2-2 Mountain West). Each player scored a rushing touchdown and Arion Worthman added 92 yards and two TDs. The Falcons gained 550 yards on 91 carries.
ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (AP) — The Air Force ground attack was no match for New Mexico's second-half might and punishing rushing game led by five Richard McQuarley touchdowns in a 56-38 Lobos' win Saturday.
McQuarley finished with 179 yards on 11 carries and tied a school touchdown record.
Arion Worthman threw for three touchdowns and had 90 rushing yards and another score for the Falcons (1-3, 0-2 Mountain West), but the defense was unable to put a dent in the New Mexico attack.
SAN JOSE, Calif. (AP) — Quarterback Arion Worthman threw a 22-yard touchdown pass to Jalen Robinette with 32 seconds left and Air Force beat San Jose State 41-38 in Mountain West Conference play Saturday night.
But questionable clock management by the Spartans made the Falcons' comeback a bit easier.
San Jose State (3-8, 2-5) had apparently won the game when Jermaine Kelly recovered a fumble by Ronald Cleveland at the SJSU 1 with 1:39 left.
AIR FORCE ACADEMY, Colo. (AP) — Receiver or running back — Ronald Cleveland doesn't know how to classify himself.
How about this: Burgeoning playmaker.
Cleveland rushed for a score and caught a 62-yard TD pass as Air Force beat Abilene Christian 37-21 on Saturday for its 13th straight win at home.
