Rangers break through in seventh, beat Mariners 2-0
SEATTLE (AP) — Interim manager Don Wakamatsu is getting a long September look at some of the future pitching pieces of the Texas Rangers.
Rookie right-hander Ariel Jurado is stating his case to be included in the Rangers' 2019 rotation. And hard-throwing Jose Leclerc just keeps putting up zeroes at the back end of the bullpen.
Guzman, Gallo, Minor lead Rangers past Angels to stop skid
ANAHEIM, Calif. (AP) — Pitching without his best stuff, Mike Minor was still able to continue his second-half success.
Minor threw six solid innings, allowing just one run on eight hits as the Texas Rangers ended a four-game losing streak with a 5-2 victory over the Los Angeles Angels on Monday night.
"The last two outings, I haven't felt great — mechanically off a little bit. But I felt like they had chances to capitalize and I only gave up the one," Minor said. "I felt really lucky for that."
Beltre, young sluggers homer as Rangers beat Twins 7-4
ARLINGTON, Texas (AP) — Adrian Beltre will play as often as his troublesome hamstring will let him in the final month of his 21st and possibly final season.
And it will all be with the last-place Texas Rangers.
Beltre hit his 470th career homer after 23-year-old sluggers Nomar Mazara and Ronald Guzman went deep, helping the Rangers stop a five-game losing streak with a 7-4 victory over the Minnesota Twins on Saturday night.
Guzman 1st rookie to hit 3 HRs in game vs Yanks, Texas wins
NEW YORK (AP) — Manuel Guzman had never seen his son play major league ball in person because he's never been fan of planes.
He might want to rethink it going forward.
Ronald Guzman became the first rookie to hit three home runs in a game against the Yankees, powering the Texas Rangers past New York 12-7 on Friday night.
"In BP I was going at it. I (told him) don't worry for today, if it's a pitch over the plate, I am going to try to hammer it," Guzman said.
ARLINGTON, Texas (AP) — Both of Cleveland's new relievers got into the game before the Indians closer had a rare blown save.
Manager Terry Francona had to go deep into his bullpen — using seven relievers after All-Star starter Trevor Bauer's early exit — before the big hitters in the heart of the lineup finally put Cleveland ahead to stay.
Machado homers as Orioles beat Rangers 6-5
BALTIMORE (AP) — Manny Machado homered before making an early exit, Adam Jones hit a three-run double and the Baltimore Orioles rallied past the Texas Rangers 6-5 Sunday.
Machado was removed in the fifth inning by manager Buck Showalter after a 26-minute rain delay, taking the All-Star shortstop off a sloppy field. The last-place Orioles are entertaining offers for Machado, who is expected to be dealt before the July 31 non-waiver trade deadline.
Choo extends streak as Rangers blank Tigers 3-0
DETROIT (AP) — After grounding into a double play to end the top of the seventh inning, Shin-Soo Choo still held out hope that he'd have another chance to extend his on-base streak.
"I still believed I'd get another at-bat," Choo said.
ARLINGTON, Texas (AP) — Isiah Kiner-Falefa was only five games into his first Triple-A season when he got called up by the Texas Rangers in early April. A few days later, Ronald Guzman got promoted and also made his big-league debut.
When Texas reached the midpoint of the regular season this week, the 23-year-old rookies were among eight position players on the roster who are 25 or younger.
ARLINGTON, Texas (AP) — The Texas Rangers have placed first baseman Ronald Guzman on the seven-day concussion disabled list and recalled utilityman Ryan Rua from Triple-A Round Rock.
The Rangers made the move Tuesday, a day after Guzman left in the sixth inning of a 7-4 win over San Diego after his head struck the knee of third baseman Christian Villanueva when the rookie was diving back on an attempted pickoff.
ANAHEIM, Calif. (AP) — Rougned Odor keeps finding himself at the center of critical moments, and Los Angeles Angels fans keep finding him with their jeers.
It worked out a little better for the Texas Rangers' fiery second baseman Saturday night.
Odor beat a throw home by left fielder Justin Upton on Ronald Guzman's single in the 10th inning, lifting Texas over the Angels 3-2.
SEATTLE (AP) — Texas Rangers second baseman Rougned Odor is fiery and energetic, much like the hard-throwing pitcher he was facing Tuesday night with the game on the line.
And for the second time in his career, Odor got the best of Seattle Mariners closer Edwin Diaz in the ninth inning.
Odor broke a tie with a three-run double and the Rangers beat Seattle 9-5 to end the Mariners' four-game winning streak.
ARLINGTON, Texas (AP) — Ronald Guzman insists he isn't a home run hitter. The Kansas Royals might not believe that.
The rookie first baseman homered in his fourth straight start and drove in three runs, leading the Texas Rangers over the Royals 8-4 on Friday night.
Guzman finished 2 for 4, including his sixth home run of the season. Guzman started three games against the New York Yankees earlier this week and homered in each, but struck out as a pinch-hitter against the Royals on Thursday night.
ARLINGTON, Texas (AP) — Cole Hamels is focused for now on trying to help the last-place Texas Rangers win some games and being a mentor to so many of their young players.
Down the stretch this season, the veteran lefty could be pitching for a contender — maybe a team like the New York Yankees.
Hamels limited the slugging Yankees to four hits over seven innings, and Jurickson Profar and Ronald Guzman homered for the Rangers in a 6-4 win Tuesday night.
ARLINGTON, Texas (AP) — Red Sox right fielder Mookie Betts has left Boston's series finale at Texas after getting hit in the back with a throw.

Betts initially stayed in the game after the play in the first inning that followed his leadoff single.
TORONTO (AP) — Eleven games into his big league career, Ronald Guzman is displaying the poise of a veteran in pressure situations.
Guzman hit a tiebreaking, two-run single in the sixth inning, and the Texas Rangers beat the Toronto Blue Jays 6-4 on Friday night, winning a series opener for the first time in nine tries.

HOUSTON (AP) — Ronald Guzman said he is having the best week of his life, and after Saturday, it's hard to argue.
Guzman's first career homer tied the game in the eighth inning, and he put the Rangers ahead with an infield single in the 10th as Texas rallied from five runs down to beat the Houston Astros 6-5.
