Review: Claire Foy trades Elizabeth for Lisbeth
No, "The Girl in the Spider's Web" isn't a Spider-man spinoff about a young woman ensnarled by Peter Parker. But you'd be forgiven for thinking the latest, revamped iteration of Stieg Larsson's thrillers has some superhero DNA.

PARIS (AP) — Jane Fonda and Helen Mirren were the toast of Paris as the two septuagenarian actresses modelled for L'Oreal. The cosmetics giant transformed the Champs-Elysees avenue into a dazzling open-air fashion runway for a one-off event on Sunday.
Other sought-after Hollywood actresses flew in to the French capital to see the collection marking a new chapter of a storied fashion house.
Claire Foy confirmed to star in ‘The Girl in the Spider’s Web’
Claire Foy is set to star in 'The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo' sequel.
The 33-year-old actress has been confirmed to portray the skilled computer hacker Lisbeth Salander in 'The Girl in the Spider's Web', which was previously played by Rooney Mara, and the movie will be directed by Fede Alvarex, Variety Online has reported.
The 'The Crown' star had been tipped to take on the role back in May this year, and four months later the casting has finally been confirmed.
Rooney Mara never wanted to be a "child actor".
The 32-year-old actress made her professional acting debut in 2006 when she appeared in 'Law & Order: Special Victims Unit', and while the star has revealed her sister Kate Mara knew she wanted to be in front of the camera at a young age, Rooney was keen to continue her education before she embarked on her career in the entertainment industry.
Rooney Mara is happy to ‘suffer for her art’
Rooney Mara is happy to "suffer for her art".
The 'Una' actress has admitted she would happily take on an interesting role, even if she knew it would be hard to make, because there is a lot to learn about having an "awful" movie-making experience.
Speaking to Empire magazine, she said: "There's something to be said about having an awful experience. You learn so much about yourself when you have a challenging experience.
This week in arthouse cinema: Nuns gone wild, ‘Reservoir Dogs’ and Deadheads unite
An unapologetically raunchy comedy about nuns, Quentin Tarantino's first film and a never-before-seen Grateful Dead concert are highlights of this week's specialty film scene.
NEW AT CIRCLE CINEMA
"A Ghost Story": Casey Affleck follows up his Oscar win for "Manchester By the Sea" with an unusual tale of a man who dies and returns as a ghost to haunt/comfort his wife (Rooney Mara), only to see her life, and his place in the world, change in his absence.
Movie review: Most people will see through ‘A Ghost Story’
Do you like pie? Do you like watching people eat pie? Would you pay to watch Rooney Mara scarf down half of a pie before then relieving herself of said pie?
When watching as a film's star eats and then vomits up pie is the most memorable moment of a movie, something has gone wrong.
"A Ghost Story" is meant to be a lyrical ode to love and loss and our fragile existence and connection to one another.
Q&A: Casey Affleck goes under a sheet for ‘A Ghost Story’
LOS ANGELES (AP) — Casey Affleck plays the ghost in the new David Lowery film, "A Ghost Story." For most of the movie, expanding wide Friday, he's silent and cloaked in a white sheet with eye holes cut out as he returns to his home to look in on his still-living partner played by Rooney Mara. It's a weird, wild, sometimes funny and breathtakingly gorgeous film that will leave you thinking about the big ideas of love, life, eternity.
Rooney Mara feels "grossed out" by pie.
The 32-year-old actress was forced to eat the sweet pastry treat whilst filming for David Lowery's 'A Ghost Story' in 2016, and has said the on-set snack was her first ever taste of pie, as well as her last.

Review: ‘A Ghost Story’ casts a bizarre spell
A fatal, off-screen car crash interrupts the picturesque, suburban lives of a young married couple in David Lowery's "A Ghost Story," marooning the deceased husband musician (Casey Affleck) in a kind of purgatory as a watchful, mostly benign ghost.

‘Song to Song’ is an offbeat but challenging film
Faye (Rooney Mara) is out to make it big in music, which explains her presence in Austin, Texas. The city seems to be an ongoing festival of sound, bursting with music-industry bigshots — including Cook (Michael Fassbender), with whom Faye becomes involved. He could be good for her career.
Ryan Gosling on Malick, directing again and that Oscar flub
NEW YORK (AP) — Even amid the chaotic melee on the Dolby Theatre stage during the infamous best-picture Oscar flub, Ryan Gosling was typically unflappable. While most reacted with shock and confusion, there was the "La La Land" star — cool and bemused — chuckling on the side of the stage.
"What can you say?" Gosling said in an interview by phone from Los Angeles. "I was very happy for 'Moonlight' at the same time. It's such a wonderful film. It's great to see such great work acknowledged."
Review: Malick gets some life back in ‘Song to Song’
As filmmakers obsessed with his early work continue to ape his style, Terrence Malick has ventured beyond, reaching into territory that is stubbornly spiritual and anti-narrative. He eschews story conventions. He turns movie stars like Ben Affleck and Christian Bale into props, using them not for their acting but their broad shoulders that fill up the screen as ethereal women twirl around them. He has become his own genre and with experimental reveries like "To the Wonder" and "Knight of Cups," he has alienated some of his most ardent fans.

The calendar, entitled "Emotional" and launched in Paris, stars 14 Oscar-winning actresses featured in black-and-white close up, in clothed poses with invisible make-up.
The photos, while beautiful, show wrinkles, lines and imperfections.
