Plum happy to be in San Antonio and playing for Stars
Kelsey Plum was thrilled to be in San Antonio and sign her first professional contract.
"It's kind of surreal. You can hear about it, but there's nothing like when you actually sign," Plum said in a phone interview with The Associated Press on Friday. "I'm excited to be here. I'd play for free."
Plum will make roughly $50,000 in her first season with the Stars as the top pick in the WNBA draft.
In the days leading to Thursday’s WNBA draft, Stars general manager Ruth Riley learned there are a lot of moving parts when you are dealing with having the No. 1 pick.

NEW YORK (AP) — Ruth Riley's phone has been ringing constantly over the past week. It will only get busier over the next 24 hours.
Such is life for the general manager of the San Antonio Stars, who hold the No. 1 pick in Thursday night's WNBA draft.
"We're evaluating all our options," Riley said Tuesday. "There's a lot of interest at No. 1 as I'm sure there is every year. We're looking for something that makes sense for us short and long term, and someone that fits our culture here."
