Kerrigan had started all 139 games of his NFL career...
ASHBURN, Va. (AP) — There was a different feel at the Washington Redskins' practice facility the day after their first victory of the season.
It didn't matter that Washington held on to beat...
This time, the Washington Redskins gave up 28 consecutive points.
Before that, they gave up 21 in a row and in their first game allowed 25 unanswered. A 31-15 loss to the Chicago Bears...
NEW ORLEANS (AP) — Washington Redskins coach Jay Gruden had issued warnings about the perils of giving Saints quarterback Drew Brees second chances.
His words went unheeded, and a humbling lesson followed.
ENGLEWOOD, Colo. (AP) — While John Elway and his staff wrap up preparations for next week's NFL draft, it's the Denver Broncos' 2017 draft class that's really on the clock.
"Well, we're hoping they can help us this year," Elway said Thursday.
A half dozen of Elway's 2017 draft picks either missed their entire rookie season or played so sparingly that they remain virtual unknowns.
ASHBURN, Va. (AP) — The Washington Redskins have signed free-agent linebacker Pernell McPhee.
The team announced the deal Monday. McPhee spent the past three seasons with the Chicago Bears.
Knee and shoulder injuries limited McPhee to 22 games over the past two seasons. In 2017, McPhee had 21 tackles, four sacks and a forced fumble in 13 games.
ASHBURN, Va. (AP) — With no playoff hopes to fight for, the Washington Redskins have developed an approach of 8-8 or bust.
"We're just trying to finish out the season strong because we know 8-8 looks a lot better than whatever other record we could have," linebacker Ryan Kerrigan said.
RICHMOND, Va. (AP) — NASCAR driver and avid Washington Redskins fan Dale Earnhardt Jr. treated quarterback Kirk Cousins and four other players from the team to ride-arounds at Richmond Raceway on Tuesday before heading to the team's practice complex to watch their afternoon workout.
Earnhardt started by giving Richmond Mayor Levar Stoney a ride in a two-seat NASCAR racer, with Stoney exclaiming "I survived" after climbing from the car.
New Redskins defensive coordinator Greg Manusky tells his players he doesn't have a crystal ball to always know the right play to call, yet before stepping on the field they have an idea what to expect.
"A lot of pressure," linebacker Ryan Kerrigan said. "You look at the install sheets for when we're installing our defense, you see a lot of lines going forward."
ASHBURN, Va. (AP) — Washington Redskins linebacker Trent Murphy has been suspended the first four games of next season for violating the NFL's performance enhancing drug policy.
The league announced the suspension Friday. Murphy is suspended without pay for the first four regular-season games, but he can participate in offseason workouts and preseason games.
ASHBURN, Va. (AP) — Will Compton figured the Washington Redskins' defense wouldn't be a quick fix, and he was right.
The middle linebacker hoped for the best, but the unit ranked 28th in the NFL for the second straight year as its struggles contributed to what coach Jay Gruden called a "barely above average" 8-7-1 season. Slow starts and inconsistent offense hurt Washington down the stretch, but retooling the defense — again — is a top priority.
PHILADELPHIA (AP) — Chris Thompson kept running into the end zone on one of those rare times scoring a touchdown wasn't the optimal play.
Ryan Kerrigan made sure it didn't matter.
Thompson had a 25-yard TD run with 1:53 remaining, Kerrigan forced a turnover in the red zone and the Washington Redskins beat the Philadelphia Eagles 27-22 on Sunday.
ASHBURN, Va. (AP) — After the Washington Redskins allowed the Minnesota Vikings to score 20 consecutive points at the end of the first half Sunday, coach Jay Gruden had to shut the door in his office at halftime to cool down.
Once he regained his poise, so did his team. For the seventh time this season the Redskins had a game decided by one score, and after beating the Vikings they're 4-2-1 in those situations.
Washington Redskins players and coaches couldn't shake the pit-in-the-stomach feeling after playing to a tie with the Cincinnati Bengals.
A week after a last-minute loss at the Detroit Lions, they went into their bye week 4-3-1 and not quite sure how to feel.
The Redskins sit in last place in the unexpectedly strong NFC East, and uncertainty about situational defense, red zone offense and a four-game suspension to Pro Bowl left tackle Trent Williams has them feeling uneasy.

ASHBURN, Va. (AP) — Forcing three second-half turnovers helped the Washington Redskins get back to .500 after a 0-2 start and masked a whole host of problems plaguing the defense this season.
ASHBURN, Va. (AP) — Sometime before the Washington Redskins open the season, coach Jay Gruden may pull out the tape of a first-round playoff loss to the Green Bay Packers to remind players new and old of what went wrong.
"It's something we all learned from, we're all sick about still," Gruden said. "If you're a competitor and you lose at home in the playoffs, it's something that you'll never forget."
LANDOVER, Md. (AP) — Coach Jay Gruden decided Friday to give Kirk Cousins the night off and start Colt McCoy at quarterback in the Washington Redskins' preseason game against the New York Jets.
He waited to tell McCoy until the very last minute.
"I was walking out of the tunnel," McCoy said. "For me, that's the best-case scenario in my role. I've got to be counted on at any point. I thought I handled it all right."
