In the early weeks of the NFL season, the biggest stars are the guys in the stripes.
They're certainly getting the most face time.
The league is awash in yellow — yellow flags, that is...
New Orleans defensive tackle Sheldon Rankins will be inactive for a second straight week when the Saints face the Los Angeles Rams in a rematch of last year's NFC title game.
METAIRIE, La. (AP) — Zach Strief's eyes watered up and the normally loquacious Saints right tackle struggled to speak at times as he discussed his decision to end of a 12-year NFL career that exceeded his "wildest imagination."
He did not, however, lose his sense of humor.
Strief, who announced his retirement Monday, said he considered walking away after the 2016 season, but was driven by a sense of obligation to his team — particularly quarterback Drew Brees — to play at least one more year.
METAIRIE, La. (AP) — Rookie Ryan Ramczyk wasn't expecting to be thrust into the role of protecting Drew Brees from both edges of the offensive line in his first five NFL games.
Ramczyk has been able to demonstrate his versatility quickly — and when the Saints really needed it.

METAIRIE, La. (AP) — New Orleans Saints general manager Mickey Loomis says the club has signed the second of its two first-round draft choices, offensive tackle Ryan Ramczyk.

METAIRIE, La. (AP) — New Orleans Saints general manager Mickey Loomis says the club has signed six of seven draft choices, leaving only offensive tackle Ryan Ramczyk unsigned.
Loomis, who announced the signings Friday, says cornerback Marshon Lattimore, safety Marcus Williams, running back Alvin Kamara, linebacker Alex Anzalone, and defensive ends Trey Hendrickson and Al-Quadin Muhammad have agreed to four-year deals, ensuring they'll be under contract for mandatory minicamp from June 13-15.
METAIRIE, La. (AP) — The New Orleans Saints' last-ranked pass defense is adding the first cornerback taken in this year's NFL draft.
New Orleans also acquired more blocking for 38-year-old star quarterback Drew Brees.
The Saints selected Ohio State's Marshon Lattimore with the 11th overall pick in the NFL draft on Thursday night, then closed out the round by taking Wisconsin offensive tackle Ryan Ramczyk 32nd overall.
MADISON, Wis. (AP) — From Russell Wilson to J.J. Watt, Wisconsin has become a home for transfers who have blossomed into impact players.
The Badgers have a good track record, and offensive lineman Ryan Ramczyk could be taken in the first round in the NFL draft next week after a strong 2016 season, his one year with the Badgers.
MADISON, Wis. (AP) — Junior Ryan Ramczyk is entering the NFL draft after one season at Wisconsin, where he emerged from Division III transfer to All-American left tackle.
Ramczyk posted his decision on Twitter on Tuesday.
Ramczyk transferred from Wisconsin-Stevens Point after the 2014 season. He redshirted with the Badgers in 2015 before sliding into the left tackle position this season. The athletic, 6-foot-6 Ramczyk immediately became an anchor on the front five.
MADISON, Wis. (AP) — Left tackle Ryan Ramczyk forged a unique path to No. 8 Wisconsin.
In just two seasons, he has gone from starter at a Division III school to a front-line anchor at a Big Ten program known for producing quality offensive linemen. What's more, the junior became an AP All-American in his first year as a starter.
