2016 sack leader Vic Beasley Jr. returns to Falcons lineup
FLOWERY BRANCH, Ga. (AP) — Vic Beasley Jr. will be back on the field Sunday for the Atlanta Falcons after missing the last two games with a hamstring injury.
The NFL's 2016 sack leader was injured in a Week 2 victory over Green Bay.
Beasley missed a victory at Detroit and a home loss to Buffalo. After a bye week, he returned to practice on a limited basis this week.
Falcons promote defensive lineman Tupou from practice squad
FLOWERY BRANCH, Ga. (AP) — The Atlanta Falcons have signed defensive lineman Taniela Tupou to the active roster.
Tupou had been on the team's practice squad. He fills the roster spot left vacant when backup defensive tackle Jack Crawford was placed on injured reserve with a biceps injury on Oct 3.
Atlanta, coming off its bye week, is hoping to have some injured players return on defense for Sunday's game against Miami.
Falcons’ Quinn pleased to get key players back from injuries
FLOWERY BRANCH, Ga. (AP) — Falcons coach Dan Quinn is feeling better about his team's injury situation coming out of a bye week.
The long break gave All-Pro receiver Julio Jones and All-Pro defensive end Vic Beasley time to recover and allowed right tackle Ryan Schraeder and free safety Ricardo Allen to come back from concussions.
Unbeaten Falcons will be without 4 injured starters vs Bills
FLOWERY BRANCH, Ga. (AP) — The unbeaten Atlanta Falcons will be without four starters when they host the Buffalo Bills on Sunday.
Safety Ricardo Allen will miss the game with a concussion sustained on a hard hit to Detroit receiver T.J. Jones last week. Outside linebacker Vic Beasley Jr. (hamstring), right tackle Ryan Schraeder (concussion) and defensive lineman Courtney Upshaw (ankle/knee) will all miss their second straight games with injuries sustained against Green Bay in Week 2.
Julio Jones limited in practice with sore back
FLOWERY BRANCH, Ga. (AP) — Falcons receiver Julio Jones was limited for the second straight day of practice with a sore back.
The two-time All-Pro was injured on the last offensive snap of last week's 30-26 victory at Detroit when Lions safety Glover Quin made a clean tackle.
He told the team's medical staff that he was fine after the play.
"I wasn't trying to make it bigger than what it was," Jones said Thursday. "It wasn't anything that we need to be concerned about."
Falcons missing 3 injured starters for game against Lions
FLOWERY BRANCH, Ga. (AP) — The Atlanta Falcons will be without three starters Sunday when they face the Detroit Lions in a matchup of unbeaten teams.
Linebacker Vic Beasley Jr., right tackle Ryan Schraeder and defensive lineman Courtney Upshaw were all ruled out Friday by the Falcons (2-0).
None of them participated in practice this week after being injured in a 34-23 victory over the Green Bay Packers.
Falcons pass rusher Beasley sidelined with hamstring strain
FLOWERY BRANCH, Ga. (AP) — Falcons All-Pro Vic Beasley has a hamstring strain and is ruled out for this week's game at Detroit, and could be sidelined even longer.
Atlanta coach Dan Quinn declined to say if last year's NFL sacks leader will be out longer than this week.
Quinn did say Monday that it's too early to tell if right tackle Ryan Schraeder will be sidelined against the Lions with a concussion. He and Beasley did not return after getting injured in Sunday's 34-23 victory over Green Bay.
The Latest: Falcons’ Beasley hurts hamstring against Packers
The Latest on the second Sunday of the NFL regular season:
Add linebacker Vic Beasley to an already imposing injury list in the Packers-Falcons game.
Beasley, the 2016 NFL sacks leader, had a sack against Aaron Rodgers, creating a fumble that led to a third-quarter touchdown by Atlanta. Minutes later, Beasley suffered a hamstring injury and was listed as questionable to return. He limped off the field and was escorted to the locker room.
Falcons release 20 players with no surprises
FLOWERY BRANCH, Ga. (AP) — The Atlanta Falcons released 14 players Friday, cutting their roster to 73 players with less than one day to meet the NFL's limit of 53 for the regular season, and acquired tackle Ty Sambrailo from Denver to shore up the offensive line.
FLOWERY BRANCH, Ga. (AP) — The Atlanta Falcons have agreed to a $69 million, five-year contract extension with cornerback Desmond Trufant, locking up another key member for the team that won the NFC championship.
The deal was Atlanta's top priority of the offseason and includes $42 million in guaranteed money.
General manager Thomas Dimitroff says the 2013 first-round pick "has improved each year and we believe his best ball is still in front of him."
Falcons sign right tackle Ryan Schraeder to 5-year extension
FLOWERY BRANCH, Ga. (AP) — Ryan Schraeder had no guarantees when the Atlanta Falcons signed him as an undrafted free agent in 2013.
The 6-foot-7, 300-pound right tackle knew he'd have to impress the coaching staff almost immediately.
"When you're undrafted, you come out and have to prove yourself even more to stand out from the guys that were drafted and on the team," he said. "For them to see some talent in me and follow through with it, it's cool."
