Bears place backup linebacker Acho on IR, sign OL Witzmann
LAKE FOREST, Ill. (AP) — The Chicago Bears have placed backup linebacker Sam Acho on injured reserve because of a torn pectoral muscle and signed offensive lineman Bryan Witzmann.
Coach Matt Nagy said last week that Acho will miss the remainder of the season. He was injured against Tampa Bay on Sept. 30.
Witzmann started 13 games for Kansas City last season. He was released by Minnesota on Friday.
It took awhile, but cornerback Prince Amukamara’s gamble on himself finally paid off with the three-year, $27-million contract he signed Wednesday to return to the Bears.
The same strategy also worked for his teammate, outside linebacker Sam Acho.
The Bears’ re-signing of outside linebacker Sam Acho is another case of the team rewarding one of its own defensive players, and the seven-year veteran provides help at a position that is now the team’s greatest area of need.

INDIANAPOLIS -- A week ago, the Bears had a serious need to add juice to the pass rush because backups Lamarr Houston and Sam Acho are soon-to-be free agents and their top remaining edge rusher, Leonard Floyd, has missed 10 games in his first two seasons.
In light of more-recent developments, that need has become critical.
Breaking down the Bears' 20-10 loss to the Detroit Lions Saturday, which clinched their fourth straight season with at least 10 losses.
THREE MOMENTS THAT MATTERED
1. After forcing a fumble to set up a field goal just before halftime, the Bears were primed to cut into their 13-3 deficit to start the second half. Instead, quarterback Mitchell Trubisky was picked off by Darius Slay on the second play of the third quarter, and the Lions then quickly extended their advantage to 20-3.
Bears try to limit mistakes after losing Trubisky’s debut
CHICAGO (AP) — Even after a switch in quarterbacks to Mitchell Trubisky, the Chicago Bears continued to lose.
Now 1-4, the Bears also continue to lose players while committing the same mistakes on the field.
Linebacker Willie Young went on injured reserve Tuesday with a triceps injury after missing Monday's 20-17 loss to the Minnesota Vikings.
