CHICAGO (AP) — Markus Howard scored almost at will. Sam Hauser and Sacar Anim also made a couple of key plays, and Ed Morrow delivered a solid performance in his hometown.
It was another nice night for No. 10 Marquette up until Hauser was poked in his right eye in the second half of Tuesday's 92-73 victory over DePaul, sidelining the valuable swingman for the rest of the game.

Sam Hauser scored 25 points, Markus Howard added 24 points and a career-high nine rebounds and No. 15 Marquette rallied past Providence 79-68 on Sunday.

Marquette's junior guard made shots when he was wide open, shots when he had a hand in his face, shots while he was falling away, shots in heavy traffic in the lane.
When he was finished Wednesday night, Howard had scored a Big East-record 53 points, with 14 coming in overtime as the No. 21 Golden Eagles beat Creighton 106-104.

MILWAUKEE (AP) — Marquette opened a new season in a new downtown home with a fresh approach to winning.
Defense came first in a 67-42 victory on Tuesday night over UMBC.
Sam Hauser and Markus Howard each scored 15 points, and the Golden Eagles held the NCAA Tournament darling Retrievers to 22.6 percent shooting in their debut at the Fiserv Forum.
"The story of our game was our defense. We haven't won a ton of games in the past on the defensive end," coach Steve Wojciechowski said.

INDIANAPOLIS (AP) — Kelan Martin scored a career-high 37 points and Butler snapped a three-game losing streak by beating Marquette 94-83 on Friday night.
Martin made four 3-pointers and hit all nine of his free throws while adding seven rebounds for the Bulldogs, who lost their three previous games to ranked opponents after they upset No. 1 Villanova on Dec. 29.

Marquette beats LSU 94-84 for third in Maui
LAHAINA, Hawaii (AP) — A lopsided loss to Wichita State in the Maui Invitational semifinals hurt Marquette. The Golden Eagles thought they could be competitive with one of the nation's top teams and didn't measure up.
The key was to regroup, find a way to win the third-place game and go home with two wins instead of one. A big second half allowed them to do that.

MILWAUKEE (AP) — Haanif Cheatham scored 19 points on 8 of 10 shooting and led five players in double figures as Marquette defeated SIU-Edwardsville 89-56 on Wednesday night in the first meeting between the schools.
Luke Fischer added 15 points, Jajuan Johnson 14, while Sam Hauser and Duane Wilson scored 11 each for the Golden Eagles, who shot 53 percent from the floor, making 32 of 60 field goals. Marquette forced 22 turnovers and had 17 assists, Johnson leading with five.

ATHENS, Ga. (AP) — Coach Steve Wojciechowski challenged Jajaun Johnson at halftime to stop playing timidly and give Marquette a better effort.
"I got a little mad, and when I get mad I play better," Johnson said. "When he got on me, it just clicked."
