ASHBURN, Va. (AP) — On Day 3 of the NFL draft, the Washington Redskins made one fourth-round pick for the long-term future and another for immediate help.
Titans have safety Kenny Vaccaro available vs. Redskins
NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) — The Tennessee Titans have starting safety Kenny Vaccaro available against the Washington Redskins after he worked his way through the concussion protocol.
That leaves the Titans (8-6) without only a pair of defensive starters. Linebacker Brian Orakpo is missing his second straight game with an injured elbow and cornerback Logan Ryan is on injured reserve with a broken left leg.
Redskins without Doctson, Saints scratch Teo
NEW ORLEANS (AP) — The Washington Redskins have scratched receiver Josh Doctson from the lineup for Monday night's game against New Orleans.
Doctson had been listed as questionable with a heel injury on the club's final injury report on Saturday. The Redskins say Maurice Harris will start in Doctson's place.
The Saints, who'd already ruled out receiver Ted Ginn Jr. with knee soreness, also scratched linebacker Manti Teo, who'd been questionable with a knee injury.
Fournette inactive for Jaguars against Patriots
The Jacksonville Jaguars are without running back Leonard Fournette for the fourth time in two seasons.
They went 3-0 without him in 2017.
Fournette is inactive a week after straining his right hamstring in the opener against the New York Giants. Fournette tested his hamstring before Sunday's game against the New England Patriots, but the Jaguars opted to be cautious with him in Week 2.
QB Hogan, WR Quick, DL Taylor cut by Redskins to get to 53
ASHBURN, Va. (AP) — Third-string quarterback Kevin Hogan, receiver Brian Quick and defensive lineman Phil Taylor were among the players the Washington Redskins cut to get down to the 53-man roster limit.
Among the other moves made Saturday by Washington were putting guard Tyler Catalina on injured reserve and defensive end Stacy McGee on the physically unable to perform list.
The team kept five running backs, including fumble-prone Samaje Perine, while Kapri Bibbs was released.
Peterson signs, Kelley is still Redskins’ top running back
A slimmed-down Rob Kelley is likely to remain Washington's top running back even though Adrian Peterson is joining the Redskins.
Amid four injuries in their backfield, the Redskins signed the 33-year-old four-time All-Pro running back on Monday. But Kelley, the former "Fat Rob" who lost weight and added speed to his repertoire, should still be considered the front-runner to start Week 1 at the Arizona Cardinals.
Guice injury mean opportunity for Redskins’ other RBs
RICHMOND, Va. (AP) — Washington Redskins coach Jay Gruden doesn't expect to go looking for another running back after losing promising rookie Derrius Guice to a torn ACL in his left knee in the preseason opener.
RICHMOND, Va. (AP) — Jay Gruden isn't handing the starting running back job to rookie Derrius Guice.
The Washington Redskins coach wants Guice — or someone else — to earn it.
ASHBURN, Va. (AP) — The Washington Redskins could decide it's time to help their running game on Day 2 of the NFL draft.
After addressing a need to stop opponents on the ground by picking Alabama defensive tackle Da'Ron Payne 13th overall, the Redskins might want to improve their own rushing offense, perhaps with a running back or a left guard.
Alex Smith headlines Washington players appearing at Redskins Draft Fest
New Washington Redskins quarterback Alex Smith will be available to fans for autographs and pictures at Redskins Draft Fest on Saturday, April 28 at FedEx Field, the team announced Monday.
Smith was acquired from the Kansas City Chiefs in exchange for a 2018 third-round pick and cornerback Kendall Fuller in a trade made official in March.
Samaje Perine, run game could key strong finish by Washington Redskins
ASHBURN, Virginia -- The pivotal drive against the New York Giants revealed an offense that could lead the Washington Redskins down the stretch. And it was the sort of balance coach Jay Gruden has sought: a running game buttressed by key passes.
It not only started with a commitment to the run, but, just as importantly, consistent success. That's been a big difference in the Redskins' rushing attack the past two weeks and could foreshadow what they try to do in the final five games.
Many owners with playoff berths on the line in Week 13 may find themselves looking at this list and wondering, am I really going to play recent waiver claims like Samaje Perine and Dion Lewis over early-round investments such as DeMarco Murray and Lamar Miller?
Then again, if owners are even on the cusp of playoff contention — never mind those enjoying the luxury of already clinching their tickets to the big dance — they can probably swiftly and resoundingly answer that question with a yes.
Samaje Perine gives Redskins back-to-back 100-yard games
WASHINGTON (AP) — Somehow, it was only after losing their top two running backs and two starting offensive linemen to season-ending injuries that the Washington Redskins found someone — Samaje Perine — to end a four-year drought of a player rushing for at least 100 yards in consecutive games.
"His vision has been good," coach Jay Gruden said Friday about the rookie runner, "and his decisiveness has been outstanding."
Redskins hand ball to Perine as new No. 1 running back
ASHBURN, Va. (AP) — Fish Smithson still can't get the number 427 out of his head.
Being in the Washington Redskins' locker room with running back Samaje Perine is one constant reminder.
Smithson was a safety for Kansas in November 2014 when Oklahoma's Perine rushed for an NCAA-record 427 yards that still stands today.
"I remember him running all over us," Smithson said.
Redskins put RB Rob Kelley, LB Will Compton on IR

Redskins pound Rams on ground in 27-20 victory
LOS ANGELES (AP) — Even Kirk Cousins was OK with how much the Washington Redskins ran the ball in a 27-20 victory against their former offensive coordinator, Sean McVay, and the Los Angeles Rams.
The Redskins (1-1) rushed 39 times for 229 yards, including touchdown runs of 71 and 7 yards by Chris Thompson on Sunday.

Oklahoma sorting out replacements for RBs Perine, Mixon
NORMAN, Okla. (AP) — In most cases, replacing two record-holders at one position would be cause for concern.
Oklahoma feels as if it is reloading.
The Sooners need to fill the slots left open when running backs Samaje Perine and Joe Mixon chose to leave early for the NFL. Perine left Oklahoma as the school's all-time rushing leader, and he's climbing the depth chart with the Washington Redskins.
The Way We Hear It: Why RB Rob Kelley will be the starter in Washington for now
There was speculation that Washington drafting fourth-round running back Samaje Perine in April could lead to an unseating at the position, or at least a shift in power. But based on what a team source told Pro Football Weekly, Rob Kelley appears to be fairly locked in as the team’s starting running back.
ASHBURN, Va. (AP) — The other rookie running back out of Oklahoma is ready to run through NFL defenders.
Samaje Perine didn't get nearly the attention before the draft as Joe Mixon. But the fourth-round pick of the Washington Redskins has the capability of starting as a rookie or at least sharing the load with undrafted second-year running back Robert Kelley.
ASHBURN, Va. (AP) — Alabama teammates Jonathan Allen and Ryan Anderson have signed their rookie contracts with the Washington Redskins, who have deals with nine of their 10 draft picks.
The only player Washington drafted but has not signed yet is third-round selection Fabian Moreau, a cornerback from UCLA.
The Redskins announced agreements Thursday with first-rounder Allen, a defensive lineman taken 17th overall, and second-rounder Anderson, a linebacker.
NORMAN, Okla. (AP) — Oklahoma wrapped up the spring still unsure how to fill the voids left by playmakers Samaje Perine, Joe Mixon and Dede Westbrook.
Perine left Oklahoma as the career rushing leader. Mixon set the school record last season for all-purpose yards in a season. Westbrook was a Heisman finalist who won the Biletnikoff Award as the nation's top receiver.
Oklahoma adds RBs to help replace Mixon, Perine
NORMAN, Okla. (AP) — Oklahoma might have filled its running back void.
247Sports lists Trey Sermon of Marietta, Georgia, and Kennedy Brooks of Mansfield, Texas, as top 15 running backs in the Class of 2017 rankings. Both are part of a highly ranked class coach Bob Stoops announced on Wednesday.
The Sooners also have added a junior college running back, Marcelias Sutton.
Oklahoma RB Samaje Perine declares for NFL draft
NORMAN, Okla. (AP) — Oklahoma running back Samaje Perine says he will forgo his senior season and enter the NFL draft.
The 235-pound junior became Oklahoma's career rushing leader during Monday's 35-19 Sugar Bowl win over Auburn. He finished with 4,122 yards, four ahead of 1978 Heisman winner Billy Sims.

Line: Oklahoma by 11.
Series record: Oklahoma leads 85-18-7.
WHAT'S AT STAKE
The winner claims the Big 12 title and would maintain slight hopes of a spot in the College Football Playoff. The likely landing spot is the Sugar Bowl. A victory for Oklahoma State would be its second over the Sooners in three years, and its second straight in Norman.
No. 9 Oklahoma seeks to keep momentum vs. No. 25 Baylor
NORMAN, Okla. (AP) — Oklahoma has rallied to salvage what appeared to be a lost season.
The Sooners entered the year with hopes of returning to the College Football Playoff, but they dropped games to Houston and Ohio State early and fell out of the Top 25. Now, No. 9 Oklahoma has won six straight to take control of the Big 12. The Sooners (7-2, 6-0 Big 12, No. 11 CFP) now must defeat their recent nemesis, No. 25 Baylor, to maintain their momentum.
RBs Perine, Mixon set to return for No. 9 Sooners vs Baylor
NORMAN, Okla. (AP) — Oklahoma running back Samaje Perine is expected to play Saturday against No. 25 Baylor after missing three games with a pulled muscle in his right leg.

Line: Oklahoma by 21
Series Record: Oklahoma leads 73-5-2.
WHAT'S AT STAKE
Oklahoma is likely out of the playoff race. But the Sooners have a clear path to the Big 12 title unless they fall to the Cyclones, something they haven't done since 1990. Iowa State is all about the future right now, and an upset on national TV would be an enormous boost for the program.

WHAT'S AT STAKE

Pass-happy Big 12 also has some pretty good running combos
After a pair of 1,000-yard seasons, Baylor career rushing leader Shock Linwood still has to earn his carries for the Bears. They have two other runners with 100-yard games this season.
The Big 12 has long had a reputation for big-play passing offenses, but there are also some impressive running combos. Besides No. 11 Baylor, No. 19 Oklahoma and Texas haven't been single-handed in piling up more than 200 yards a game.
Mayfield leads No. 14 Oklahoma past ULM 59-17
NORMAN, Okla. (AP) — Baker Mayfield passed for 244 yards and three touchdowns in a half of work and No. 14 Oklahoma beat Louisiana-Monroe 59-17 on Saturday night in a warmup for its showdown with Ohio State.

Tone already changed in Big 12 for favored OU, surging Texas
One weekend has already changed the tone of the Big 12.
Oklahoma went into this season as the overwhelming favorite to win its 10th Big 12 Conference title, and the Sooners very well might still be that with all the talent back from last season's College Football Playoff team.
Riley’s Air Raid at Oklahoma might be better than in ’15
NORMAN, Okla. (AP) — A year ago, new Oklahoma offensive coordinator Lincoln Riley was still installing his Air Raid system while trying to figure out who would be his quarterback.
