FBI investigating death of American woman on cruise ship
MIAMI (AP) — The FBI is investigating the death of 52-year-old woman who was a passenger on a cruise ship heading from Florida to Aruba.
The Santa Clarita, California-based cruise line said in a statement that the American woman died early Tuesday aboard the Royal Princess.
Cruise officials said her death was reported to the FBI and local authorities in Aruba. The statement says local authorities met the ship when it arrived in Aruba and cruise officials are cooperating with investigators.
California basketball coach arrested on molestation charges
SANTA CLARITA, Calif. (AP) — A basketball coach who worked at several Southern California high schools was arrested Thursday on suspicion of molesting at least eight teenage boys he coached.
The Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department said Jeremy Haggerty, 34, molested the children while working in the Santa Clarita Valley.

SANTA CLARITA, Calif. (AP) — Los Angeles County Sheriff's deputies say they've arrested a man suspected of attacking a 70-year-old female hiker along a Santa Clarita trail.
The Los Angeles Times reports (http://lat.ms/2fyanwS ) two cyclists claim they saw the 29-year-old man strangle the woman until she lost consciousness on Tuesday morning. The cyclists detained the man until law enforcement arrived to the scene.
Deal for new city fuels Los Angeles County development boom
LOS ANGELES (AP) — A new city of 58,000 residents could rise in Southern California now that a deal has been reached to end a decades-long development battle.
Environmental groups on Monday agreed to the pact, clearing the way for the Newhall Ranch project involving the construction of thousands of new homes in the Santa Clarita Valley. Man arrested in death of missing California student
SANTA CLARITA, Calif. (AP) — Los Angeles County authorities said a 21-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of murder, and family members identified the victim as a college student missing for two days.
Sheriff's deputies responded Sunday to reports of a man not breathing at a home in Santa Clarita, according to Deputy Guillermina Saldana.
The victim was pronounced dead at the scene and investigators believe he was strangled, Saldana said.

The Police Department said Wednesday that human remains found in the northern suburb were positively identified by the coroner's office as those of 26-year-old Marisela Garcia.
The woman was last known to have been seen on Jan. 13 in the Reseda area of Los Angeles, about 20 miles south of where the remains were located.

LOS ANGELES (AP) — Authorities say a Los Angeles County probation officer has been arrested and is accused of inappropriately touching four teenage girls he supervised at a probation camp.
Oscar David Calderon Jr. was expected to be arraigned Thursday on charges of committing lewd acts upon a child and assault by a public officer.
Prosecutors say Calderon inappropriately touched the girls, who were between 15 and 18 years old, beginning in 2014 while working at Camp Scudder in Santa Clarita.
