Sardinian shepherds pour milk on roads to protest low prices
ROME (AP) — Shepherds have been pouring milk on highways and town streets on the Italian island of Sardinia to protest prices paid by cheesemakers for their milk.
On a fifth straight day of protests, the shepherds were joined on Tuesday by students in a march in Nuoro, Sardinia, where shopkeepers shut stores in solidarity. The shepherds poured milk from large canisters onto streets.

ROME (AP) — Police in Sardinia say they have arrested a Lebanese man suspected of trying to buy material online for a planned biological or chemical attack in Italy that he researched using Islamic State propaganda.
Police said 38-year-old Amin Alhaj Ahmad researched the aflatoxin B1 carcinogen and the metomil pesticide using his smartphone. He was detained as he left his home in Sardinia on Wednesday and is accused of association with the aim of international terrorism.

ROME (AP) — Italy's coast guard is searching for eight Algerian migrants who apparently tried to swim to shore when the motor of their boat failed off Sardinia's southwest coast.
The coast guard said in a statement Saturday that three people who decided to stay aboard the stranded boat and were rescued told authorities that 10 people in all had abandoned ship Thursday near Isola del Toro, an uninhabited rock off the Sardinian island of Sant'Antioco.

Italian news agency ANSA, reporting Wednesday from Sardinia, quoted Antonello Viglino as saying he was "stationary on the roadway," ready to turn left when two motorcycles came from the other direction Tuesday morning.

The Colombian is bidding to become the first rider since Marco Pantani in 1998 to win the Giro d'Italia and the Tour de France in the same year.
Contador had the same aim two years ago but finished fifth in the Tour after winning the Giro.
Quintana's challenge begins Friday when the 100th edition of the Giro starts on the island of Sardinia.
