RALEIGH, N.C. (AP) — The Carolina Hurricanes have sent goalie Scott Darling to their AHL affiliate in Charlotte and say forward Valentin Zykov has been claimed on waivers by the Edmonton Oilers.
General manager Don Waddell announced the moves Friday, a day after both players were placed on waivers for the purpose of reassignment.

On a busy day for goaltenders on the NHL waiver wire, the Carolina Hurricanes put Scott Darling on waivers and the Arizona Coyotes claimed Calvin Pickard from the Philadelphia Flyers.
Darling went on waivers Thursday with two years left on his contract beyond this season at a salary-cap hit of $4.15 million. Darling became Carolina's third goaltender behind Petr Mrazek and Curtis McIlhenney, who the Hurricanes claimed from the Maple Leafs before the season began.

General manager Don Waddell announced the waiver claim for McElhinney on Tuesday. Darling hurt his hamstring in the preseason finale against Nashville.
The 35-year-old McElhinney went 11-5-1 in 18 games for Toronto with a 2.15 goals-against average.
Johansen’s 2 goals lead Predators past Hurricanes
RALEIGH, N.C. (AP) — Ryan Johansen scored two goals, including the game-deciding strike 21 seconds into overtime, as the Nashville Predators beat the Carolina Hurricanes 5-4 on Sunday.
Johansen opened and closed the scoring. He put the Predators ahead 4:13 into the game.
Craig Smith also scored two goals and added an assist. Kevin Fiala scored as well.
Pekka Rinne stopped 12 of 14 shots in his half of the game before being replaced by Juuse Saros, who made 16 saves.
Van Riemsdyk lifts Hurricanes past Islanders, 4-3
NEW YORK (AP) — The Carolina Hurricanes simply outplayed the New York Islanders in a matchup of teams headed for a spring without playoff games.

Brett Pesce, Phil Di Giuseppe and Sebastian Aho scored in the first period, leading the Hurricanes to a 4-1 win over the Vancouver Canucks on Friday night.

BOSTON (AP) — Patrice Bergeron had four goals and an assist, surpassing 700 points for his career while leading the Boston Bruins to a 7-1 rout of the Carolina Hurricanes on Saturday night.

RALEIGH, N.C. (AP) — When it came time for Sebastian Aho and Teuvo Teravainen to face Juuse Saros in a shootout, they knew what to do against their fellow countrymen.
"A little bit of Finn on Finn there," Carolina coach Bill Peters said. "They know Saros ... and I said to (Aho) 'You own this guy?' and he said 'Yeah, I do.' Teuvo said the same thing."
