SPRINGFIELD, Ill. (AP) — Lawyer and best-selling author Scott Turow will be the keynote speaker at a bicentennial celebration of the Illinois judiciary.
MONTGOMERY, Ala. (AP) — Three books have been announced as finalists for the 2018 Harper Lee Prize for Legal Fiction, and the public can vote for the winner online.
The prize is presented by the University of Alabama School of Law and the ABA Journal. It was started eight years ago to commemorate the 50th anniversary of "To Kill a Mockingbird," and to honor author Harper Lee, a former Alabama law student who authorized the prize before her death in 2016.
Lawyers support man’s lawsuit in wrongful murder conviction
SPRINGFIELD, Ill. (AP) — A dozen former prosecutors have filed a brief with the Illinois Supreme Court supporting a man's efforts to sue three police officers and a town over his wrongful conviction for murder.
The brief asks the court to grant Alan Beaman's request for a trial, The (Bloomington) Pantagraph reported .

Hachette announces departures of 2 executives
NEW YORK (AP) — A longtime Hachette Book Group executive who has worked with Jon Stewart, Amy Sedaris and many other top-selling authors is stepping down in January.
Hachette announced Monday that Jamie Raab, president and publisher of the Grand Central Publishing division, is leaving after 30 years with the company. Raab said in a statement that she had had a "terrific career," but that it was time to step down.
