Seeing the famous photo of Bobby Orr scoring the 1970 Stanley Cup-winning goal to beat his St. Louis Blues doesn't bring back bad memories for Scotty Bowman.
Scotty Bowman had already coached six teams to the Stanley Cup championship when his high-powered Detroit Red Wings that won 12 of their first 14 playoff games couldn't get the puck away from the...

For Colin Campbell, going from Mike Keenan's top assistant to head coach of the New York Rangers wasn't a big move.
"I just had to move 10 feet to another office," Campbell said.
Logistically it was simple, but in every other way it was an almost-impossible task. Campbell took over the Rangers after they ended a 54-year drought and paraded the Stanley Cup down Broadway because Keenan left in a contract dispute.
WINNIPEG, Manitoba (AP) — Gerard Gallant and Paul Maurice do not know each other well despite having their NHL coaching careers overlap for several years.
The men behind the benches for the Vegas Golden Knights and Winnipeg Jets, though, both have led their teams into the Western Conference final after following long, winding paths.
"It's quite a story for both of them," Hall of Fame coach Scotty Bowman said in a telephone interview.
FRISCO, Texas (AP) — Ken Hitchcock wasn't sure how long he would coach the Dallas Stars the second time around after 15 years away.
Turned out to be one season.
The coach who led Dallas to its only Stanley Cup championship retired Friday, ending a 22-year career as the third-winningest coach in NHL history. The 823 wins are behind only Scotty Bowman (1,244) and Joel Quenneville (884). He's fourth in total games with 1,536.
The 66-year-old Hitchcock will become a consultant for the Stars.
ST. PAUL, Minn. (AP) — Bruce Boudreau didn't want anyone making a big deal about his 500th career win as an NHL coach. With a tightening playoff race, his Minnesota Wild have other things to worry about.
So the Wild made sure to take care of business against the Western Conference's top team before acknowledging their coach's impressive milestone.
DETROIT (AP) — The Detroit Red Wings have been fading from elite status in the NHL for nearly a decade.
A new arena also isn't going to fix their problems.
In fact, the franchise's glorious past seems to have a haunting effect in and around Detroit's dressing room at Little Caesars Arena.
NEW YORK (AP) — The New York Rangers have hired longtime NHL head coach Lindy Ruff as an assistant to Alain Vigneault.
The Rangers announced the hire Monday. The 57-year-old Ruff was a head coach for almost 19 seasons, compiling a record of 736-554-78-125.
He ranks fourth among head coaches in regular-season games coached, trailing Scotty Bowman, Al Arbour and Joel Quenneville.
TAMPA, Fla. (AP) — Scotty Bowman was 12 years old when he saw Jackie Robinson play in Montreal. More than 70 years later, Bowman says Montreal welcomed Robinson during the Hall of Famer's one season with the International League Royals.
"Adoration," the winningest coach in NHL history said. "Montreal fans embraced him."
