MINNEAPOLIS (AP) — The pressure is on Minnesota's offense to improve, and a more productive passing attack will depend partially on a diversified group of targets for Kirk Cousins.

NEW ORLEANS (AP) — Kirk Cousins enjoyed his first true taste of Minnesota's new offense — both from under center and watching from the sideline.

NFL rushing leader Gurley inactive as Rams rest starters
NFL rushing leader Todd Gurley of the Los Angeles Rams is inactive for Sunday's home regular-season finale against the San Francisco 49ers.
Gurley will finish the regular season with 1,305 yards rushing. Also resting for the playoffs are center John Sullivan, left tackle Andrew Whitworth and defensive tackle Aaron Donald.
Rams claim QB Allen from Jaguars, waive homegrown WR Spruce
THOUSAND OAKS, Calif. (AP) — The Los Angeles Rams have claimed quarterback Brandon Allen off waivers from the Jacksonville Jaguars.
The Rams also waived receiver Nelson Spruce on Monday after reaching an injury settlement with the homegrown talent.
Allen spent last season as Jacksonville's third-string quarterback after getting drafted in the sixth round out of Arkansas, where he was a three-year starter. Allen is expected to be the Rams' third-string QB behind Jared Goff and Sean Mannion.
Chargers’ Williams reconnects with unlikely pro day partner
COSTA MESA, Calif. (AP) — When Los Angeles Chargers receiver Tyrell Williams gets an opportunity, he makes the most of it.
It was true of his breakout season last year, when he had 69 receptions for 1,059 yards and seven touchdowns. It was true of his collegiate career at Western Oregon, attending the Division II program instead of walking on at Oregon State. And it was certainly true of his unlikely route to the Beavers' pro day in 2015.
IRVINE, Calif. (AP) — The Los Angeles Rams have signed veteran quarterback Dan Orlovsky.
The Rams announced the deal Wednesday while players began reporting to training camp at UC Irvine.
Orlovsky is the third quarterback on the Rams' roster. He is likely to compete with Sean Mannion for the backup job behind No. 1 draft pick Jared Goff.
THOUSAND OAKS, Calif. (AP) — The Los Angeles Rams have signed quarterback Aaron Murray.
The Rams announced the deal Thursday.
Murray is expected to be the Rams' third-string quarterback. He was a fifth-round pick by Kansas City in 2014, and he spent two seasons with the Chiefs before getting cut and finishing last season on Philadelphia's practice squad.
Rams: Goff to start vs SF after clearing concussion protocol
THOUSAND OAKS, Calif. (AP) — Rookie quarterback Jared Goff is expected to start for the Los Angeles Rams on Saturday after clearing the NFL's concussion protocol.
Interim coach John Fassel said Thursday that Goff will start for the Rams (4-10) against the San Francisco 49ers (1-13). Sean Mannion will replace Case Keenum as Goff's backup, the coach also announced.
#5. San Francisco 49ers (1-13) @ Los Angeles Rams (4-10)
Bing Predicts winner: Rams (58 percent)Opening line: LA -3Kickoff time: 4:25 p.m. EST (Saturday)This game is unwatchable for anyone who isn't a diehard 49ers or Rams fan. The Rams might be without Jared Goff after the rookie took a vicious hit from Richard Sherman in last week's 24-3 loss in Seattle. If Goff is unavailable, Sean Mannion would be next in line to start, and he'd get the chance to face the league's worst defense. For what it's worth, San Francisco blew out Los Angeles way back in Week 1 in a 28-0 win. Since then, the 49ers have lost 13 straight.
Rams could give QB Mannion a longer look
THOUSAND OAKS, Calif. (AP) — Sean Mannion has only been active for one game this season for the Los Angeles Rams, as the backup quarterback in the season opener against the San Francisco 49ers.
He could get back in the lineup Saturday — with a chance to start, too.
No. 1 pick Jared Goff will be Rams’ backup QB on Sunday
THOUSAND OAKS, Calif. (AP) — Jared Goff is one step closer to the field for the Los Angeles Rams.
The No. 1 overall draft pick will be the Rams' backup quarterback Sunday, putting him in uniform for the first time in his rookie season.
Coach Jeff Fisher made the announcement Friday after Los Angeles' final practice for its home opener against Seattle.
Goff, Rams lose 27-25 to Vikings in preseason finale
MINNEAPOLIS (AP) — Never mind Jared Goff's status as the first overall pick in the draft for Los Angeles.
For now, with a lot left to learn, he's the third-stringer.
Goff's first start of the preseason for the Rams featured two turnovers and one touchdown, as the Minnesota reserve running backs led a 27-25 victory by the Vikings on Thursday night.
Whicker: Rams get boosts from Tyler Higbee and Nelson Spruce, hope for better things from their receivers
LOS ANGELES - The Rams fans who have quietly endured these 22 years are a forgiving sort. They're also a forgetting sort. Somehow they blocked out the final, fruitless years that led up to the Rams' move to St. Louis.
They pretty much filled the Coliseum on Saturday, but before a lot of them parked and made it inside, the Cowboys' Lucky Whitehead was returning their opening kickoff for a touchdown. Yes, it's like they never left.
Rams slip past Cowboys in 1st game back in LA
LOS ANGELES (AP) — Dallas' Dez Bryant caught a 10-yard touchdown pass, but the Los Angeles Rams earned a win in their homecoming when Sean Mannion threw a 9-yard touchdown pass to Aaron Green with 1:54 remaining for a 28-24 comeback over the Cowboys at the Coliseum on Saturday.
Bryant had two receptions for 28 yards, including a leaping catch on the sideline against cornerback Coty Sensabaugh for 18 yards. He played one series before leaving the game.
Overshadowed in QB race, Rams’ Sean Mannion still works to improve
IRVINE - Unless something goes very wrong for the Rams this season, Sean Mannion is not going to start at quarterback.
This is a team that has mortgaged its future for Cal's Jared Goff, trading away six premium draft picks in order to move up to the top of the 2016 NFL draft. It is a team that has been content to slow-play Goff's development, giving Case Keenum - a quintessential journeyman - the bulk of the first-team reps in training camp.
Two years ago, Pac-12 quarterbacks provided plenty of star power at the conference’s media days, which were held on a Hollywood movie studio lot.
Oregon’s eventual Heisman Trophy winner, Marcus Mariota, highlighted a group that also included California’s Jared Goff, UCLA’s Brett Hundley, USC’s Cody Kessler, Oregon State’s Sean Mannion, Arizona State’s Taylor Kelly and Washington State’s Connor Halliday.
