RENTON, Wash. (AP) — The Seattle Seahawks are giving quarterback Paxton Lynch another chance in the NFL.

Seahawks face only a few major free agent questions
RENTON, Wash. (AP) — The vast majority of what the Seattle Seahawks needed to do in churning through its roster and clearing out a handful of players with big contracts later in their careers took place last offseason.
The moves helped accelerate what coach Pete Carroll and general manager John Schneider were hoping to do in "refreshing" Seattle's roster and set up the franchise for having salary cap flexibility in the future.
Carroll’s optimism for future outweighs Seattle’s early exit
RENTON, Wash. (AP) — Once Pete Carroll was finished answering for the shortcomings of a disappointing playoff loss, the oldest coach in the NFL started articulating why he's so excited about what the future holds for the Seattle Seahawks.

Seahawks have solved pass rush question with Reed and Clark
RENTON, Wash. (AP) — Frank Clark and Jarran Reed knew one of the biggest questions about the Seattle Seahawks before the season began surrounded them.
The loss of Michael Bennett and Cliff Avril on the defensive line left massive concerns about whether the Seahawks had the personnel to be effective rushing the passer and creating enough havoc for opposing offenses.
As the only proven returners to Seattle's pass rush group, Clark and Reed needed to be productive to a level neither had before.

RENTON, Wash. (AP) — Pete Carroll and Brian Schottenheimer sat together and decided with their team winless after two games there needed to be a change.

Seahawks place safety Delano Hill on injured reserve
RENTON, Wash. (AP) — The Seattle Seahawks placed safety Delano Hill on injured reserve after suffering a non-displaced fracture in his hip in the regular-season finale against Arizona.

Prescott rolls into 2nd postseason with Cowboys, unlike 1st
DALLAS (AP) — Dak Prescott barely played over a three-week span before losing in his postseason debut as a rookie quarterback with the Dallas Cowboys two years ago.

Fitzgerald remains evasive about his future with Arizona
SEATTLE (AP) — Larry Fitzgerald would only commit to one event taking place after the final game of his 15th NFL season and at least for now it had nothing to do with a retirement ceremony.

Seahawks wrap up No. 5 seed with 27-24 win over Cardinals
SEATTLE (AP) — There was a sense of frustration that overwhelmed the accomplishment of the Seattle Seahawks winning 10 games for the sixth time in seven seasons.

Undrafted, undersized Ford making impact with Seahawks
RENTON, Wash. (AP) — Poona Ford understood there was a reasonable likelihood that he wouldn't be drafted.
When you're a defensive lineman and you're not even 6 feet tall, it's difficult to buck perceptions that you're not cut out for the NFL. Even though he was the Big 12 Conference Defensive Lineman of the Year in 2017, Ford wasn't invited to the NFL Combine, only met with one team before the draft and has become used to people doubting his abilities.

RENTON, Wash. (AP) — Considering how easily Michael Dickson has adjusted to the NFL and become one of the best punters in the league as a rookie, hearing that he was a bit anxious about a kicking situation may be a surprise.
But last Sunday night, the Seattle Seahawks rookie was on the verge of being asked to perform a task he's never executed outside of messing around at practice or during pregame warmups.

Seahawks back in playoffs, Carroll gets contract extension
RENTON, Wash. (AP) — Doug Baldwin is one of the few still on the Seattle Seahawks roster who has hung around long enough to give an accurate and comprehensive read on coach Pete Carroll — who received a three-year contract extension Monday.
After being with Carroll for eight of his nine seasons in Seattle, Baldwin said the coaching job done this season may be Carroll's best, taking a team few expected to be contender and leading them to the postseason for the seventh time in his Seahawks tenure.
Seahawks clinch playoff berth outlasting Chiefs 38-31
SEATTLE (AP) — Doubted before the season began, questioned even more after a 0-2 start, the Seattle Seahawks are back where they've spent most seasons since Pete Carroll arrived.
The Seahawks are in the playoffs and perhaps as the type of opponent no one would like to see in the postseason.
"You hear it. You hear the noise. You hear the 4-12 predictions, the 5-11 and that stuff motivates you," Seattle linebacker K.J. Wright said. "We kept believing."
Baldwin still showing up for Seattle in injury-filled season
RENTON, Wash. (AP) — Doug Baldwin knows he's fortunate to have spent eight years in the NFL and to have established himself as one of the better players on several elite teams.

Seahawks uncertain about McDougald, O-line as Chiefs loom
RENTON, Wash. (AP) — Outside of middle linebacker Bobby Wagner, no one on the Seattle Seahawks defense has proven more valuable this season than safety Bradley McDougald.

RENTON, Wash. (AP) — The Seattle Seahawks have placed guard Jordan Simmons on injured reserve after he suffered a knee injury last week against San Francisco.

Penalty problems delay Seahawks’ playoff aspirations
RENTON, Wash. (AP) — Coach Pete Carroll didn't have to decipher all the reasons the Seattle Seahawks booted their first chance at clinching an NFC playoff spot.
"Without the added issue of getting behind on the penalty situation, we would have won the game," Carroll said Monday. "So it's really clear. It's not like there's any mystery what happened this game. We just have to clean it up."

The Steelers' 17-10 win at Heinz Field kept the Steelers (8-5-1) ahead of the Ravens (8-6) in the NFC North. A loss would have put them on the outside of the playoff picture with two weeks remaining.
The Patriots were denied their 10th consecutive AFC East title.

Once a weakness, offensive line now strength for Seahawks
RENTON, Wash. (AP) — Jordan Simmons was basically an unknown when the Seattle Seahawks claimed him off waivers from the Oakland Raiders on Sept. 2.
He'd barely played in college at USC due to injuries. His NFL tape was limited. But Seattle offensive line coach Mike Solari saw tools he could work with. Solari saw strength and footwork that created a good foundation, and knew the rest could be taught and developed.

RENTON, Wash. (AP) — Mychal Kendricks' awkward season came to an abrupt end Wednesday when the linebacker was placed on injured reserve after injuring his left leg in the Seattle Seahawks' win over Minnesota.

Wagner proving to be the voice of the surprising Seahawks
SEATTLE (AP) — Bobby Wagner walked to his locker and noticed there was perhaps a bit too much noise and laughter less than 24 hours after a loss. Wagner didn't raise his voice. He respectfully said a few words and the noise immediately died down.
"His voice is bigger than ever and he's taken to it," Seattle Seahawks coach Pete Carroll said. "He's embellished the role to become - he's really the voice of our guys. He's done a great job with handling that."

Kendricks pleaded guilty to one count of securities fraud and one count of conspiracy to commit securities fraud.
Seahawks getting unexpected pass rush boost from Jarran Reed
RENTON, Wash. (AP) — When he came out of Alabama, Jarran Reed was regarded as a run-stopping defensive tackle.
That was it.
Anything else he provided for the Seattle Seahawks was going to be extra.
"He was a real dedicated run defender coming out. We did not see him specialize in rushing the passer. He has just emerged through his focus and dedication and hard work he has become a complete player," Seattle coach Pete Carroll said.
