DENVER (AP) — Dustin Brown got the jump on a Colorado line change ahead of his game-winning shot.
Brown scored on a breakaway 56 seconds into overtime and the Los Angeles Kings withstood a late comeback attempt by Colorado and beat the Avalanche 3-2 on Monday night.
"The puck got kicked into our zone," Brown said. "They were trying to get a change. I was coming out of the blue-line door — so that's 30 or 40 feet for them to change, and I got in behind them."

Parayko’s OT goal lifts Blues over Avalanche 3-2
DENVER (AP) — Colton Parayko didn't have much room to work with as he skated into the Colorado end early in the overtime, so the defenseman used his long arm to knock the puck toward the net.
His strategy paid off. Parayko's one-handed goal 1:34 into the extra period lifted the St. Louis Blues to a 3-2 win over the Avalanche on Friday night.
Vladimir Tarasenko scored and Alexander Steen also had a goal before leaving the game with an injury. Jake Allen stopped 27 shots for St. Louis.

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) — Colorado was due for a regular-season win against the Nashville Predators.
Nathan MacKinnon scored twice, Semyon Varlamov made 36 saves and the streaking Avalanche beat Nashville 3-2 on Tuesday night.
Tyson Jost had the other goal for the Avalanche, who have won five straight. Colorado also ended an 11-game losing streak to Nashville in the regular season. The teams met in the first round of the playoffs last season, with Nashville winning the series in six games.
Backstrom’s OT goal lifts Capitals past Avalanche 3-2
DENVER (AP) — When they were teammates, Nicklas Backstrom always had a tough time against Philipp Grubauer in practice.

CALGARY, Alberta (AP) — Down by three goals going into the third period, the Calgary Flames were far from done.
Mark Giordano had a goal and two assists, and Calgary scored five straight times in the third to rally past the Colorado Avalanche 6-5 on Thursday night.
With the game tied 4-all, Giordano scored the go-ahead goal at 13:47 when he jumped up into the rush, took a pass from Mikael Backlund and snapped a shot over the blocker of goaltender Semyon Varlamov.

ST. PAUL, Minn. (AP) — Knowing that a daunting seven-game trip awaited them, the Minnesota Wild wanted to leave home on a high note.

DALLAS (AP) — The Colorado Avalanche signed goaltender Philipp Grubauer to a three-year contract and put defenseman Brooks Orpik on buyout waivers the day after acquiring them from the Washington Capitals.
One person with knowledge of the move said the Avalanche signed Grubauer to a $10 million contract. The person spoke to The Associated Press on condition of anonymity because the deal had not been announced.
DENVER (AP) — The Colorado Avalanche have signed goaltender Pavel Francouz of the Czech Republic to a one-year deal.
The 27-year-old played the last three seasons in Russia's Kontinental Hockey League as a member of Traktor Chelyabinsk. Francouz went 15-11-5 with a 1.80 goals-against average in 2017-18.

DENVER (AP) — The playoff-chasing Colorado Avalanche received a big blow when goalie Semyon Varlamov and defenseman Erik Johnson were ruled out for the remainder of the regular season due to injuries.
Colorado coach Jared Bednar said Saturday that Varlamov suffered a lower-body injury the night before when a Chicago player ran into him in the third period. Varlamov will be re-evaluated next week. Bednar said Johnson has a fractured patella and will be sidelined at least six weeks.

Vegas secures playoff spot with 4-1 win over Avalanche
LAS VEGAS (AP) — William Karlsson and Jonathan Marchessault each scored to help the expansion Vegas Golden Knights clinch a playoff spot with a 4-1 win over the Colorado Avalanche on Monday night.
The Golden Knights, who lead the Pacific Division, became the first team to reach the playoffs in its inaugural season since the league expanded for the 1967-68 season.
