WASHINGTON (AP) — Winnipeg Jets top center Mark Scheifele remains out with an upper-body injury and is expected to miss Tuesday night's game at Nashville.
Coach Paul Maurice says he's going to be cautious with Scheifele with the playoffs a month away. Scheifele is missing his third and fourth consecutive games — Monday night at Washington and Tuesday at Nashville.
The team has not said if this is the same injury that kept him out 16 games earlier this season.
WINNIPEG, Manitoba (AP) — Winnipeg's patchwork top line pushed the Jets past the New York Islanders.
Blake Wheeler and Kyle Connor each had a goal and an assist on the re-worked top line and the Jets beat the Islanders 4-2 on Friday night.
Wheeler played center in place of the injured Mark Scheifele, with Connor on left wing and Patrik Laine on the right. Laine had two assists. Scheifele missed his first game and is expected to be out six to eight weeks with an undisclosed upper-body injury.
SUNRISE, Fla. (AP) — Connor Hellebuyck is enjoying the Winnipeg Jets' trip to Florida.
Hellebuyck has recorded back-to-back wins against Tampa Bay and the Florida Panthers after being pulled in a loss to the New York Islanders at home on New Year's Eve.
Hellebuyck had 31 saves and Patrik Laine had a goal and an assist to lead the Jets to a 4-1 victory over the Panthers on Wednesday night.
WINNIPEG, Manitoba (AP) — A lot of New York Islanders got into the act — at the Winnipeg Jets' expense.
John Tavares and Ryan Strome each had a goal and an assist to help the Islanders beat the Jets 6-2 on Saturday night. Nikolay Kulemin, Shane Prince, Anders Lee and Andrew Ladd also scored, Josh Bailey and Brock Nelson each had two assists, and Thomas Greiss made 32 saves.
DENVER (AP) — Michael Hutchinson was all warmed up by the time the Colorado Avalanche finally shook off the rust from a long layoff.
At that point, nothing was getting by him.
Hutchinson stopped 37 shots for his third career NHL shutout, Shawn Matthias scored in the second period against his former team and the Winnipeg Jets beat the Avalanche 1-0 on Friday night.
Early on, the Jets were more energetic despite playing their third game in four days, including a 4-1 win over Dallas the night before.
