Pitt seniors look to go out on high note
PITTSBURGH (AP) — The four players tasked with overseeing a transition they never asked for and never saw coming can't quite explain what went wrong.
Pittsburgh upsets No. 17 Florida State 80-66
PITTSBURGH (AP) — Sheldon Jeter and Michael Young were Pittsburgh's tough to guard combination.
Jeter scored a career-high 29 points and Young had 11 as Pittsburgh upset No. 17 Florida State 80-66 on Saturday.
Jeter, who averages 7.6 points per game, also had eight rebounds. Four of his 12 field goals were 3-pointers as the 6-foot-8 forward showed his range against bigger Florida State defenders.
Jeter and Young presented a matchup problem inside with their athleticism.
Young scores 19 of 30 in 2nd half, Pitt beats BC 83-72
BOSTON (AP) — Michael Young felt like he had a very favorable matchup. That was all that Pittsburgh needed to end a rough stretch.
Young scored 19 of his 30 points in the second half, and the Panthers snapped an eight-game losing streak with an 83-72 win over Boston College Wednesday night in a match of the Atlantic Coast Conference's bottom two teams.
Pitt pulls away in OT to beat No. 11 Virginia 88-76
PITTSBURGH (AP) — The ball went up. Then it went in. And in the Pittsburgh huddle there was an all-too-familiar feeling, the kind that comes when you let a ranked team off the deck and back in the game.
Only this time, the Panthers responded. Emphatically.
Pitt shook off a deep 3-pointer by Virginia's London Perrantes that forced overtime on Wednesday night, overwhelming the 11th-ranked Cavaliers in the extra session for an 88-76 victory.
Artis and Young score 30 each, Pitt escapes Marshall 112-106
PITTSBURGH (AP) — Seemingly comfortably ahead against a team that its own coach likened to playing in mud or perhaps dazed from spending too much time playing video games, Pittsburgh let off the gas.
Marshall and it's relentless pace almost made the Panthers pay for it.
Young scores 29, Pitt holds on to beat Penn St 81-73
NEWARK, N.J. (AP) — Sheldon Jeter can't quite put his finger on why Pitt is giving up second half leads. Fortunately, he and the Panthers can continue to look for answers after a victory.
Michael Young had 29 points and nine rebounds as Pittsburgh held on to defeat Penn State 81-73 on Saturday in the Never Forget Tribute Classic.
Pitt beats Eastern Michigan 93-90 in 2OT in Stallings’ debut
PITTSBURGH (AP) — Jamel Artis scored 27 points and head coach Kevin Stallings survived a season-opening scare in his Pittsburgh debut, beating Eastern Michigan 93-90 in double overtime Friday night.
The Panthers led all of regulation but were unable to put away the Eagles. Sheldon Jeter's jumper and some clutch free-throw shooting in double overtime sealed the win for Pitt.
