PAGELAND, S.C. (AP) — Authorities say a man escaped from his burning home, only to be struck and killed by a pickup truck on the street outside.
A coroner says 53-year-old Tyrone Bush died around 6:45 a.m. Monday just outside his home in Pageland, South Carolina.
Chesterfield County Coroner Kip Kiser says he has not determined if Bush was trying to flag down help or was disoriented from possible injuries from the fire.
Woman arrested in South Carolina hit-and- run death
LEXINGTON, S.C. (AP) — The South Carolina Highway Patrol has arrested a suspect in a weekend hit-and-run death.
Lance Cpl. Matt Southern said troopers arrested 33-year-old Ashley Burkhard of West Columbia on Sunday and charged her with leaving the scene of an accident involving death.
Burkhard is charged with hitting 21-year-old Davontaye Washington as he was walking on a road late Saturday in the Red Bank area of Lexington County. Troopers say the woman drove away. Washington died at the scene.

The State of Columbia reports Richland County deputies and the U.S. Marshals arrested 43-year-old Correy Termaine Brown without incident Monday. He was charged with murder after the Dec. 29 death of 37-year-old Donald Antonio Young.

GREENVILLE, S.C. (AP) — South Carolina authorities have identified a teenager killed over the weekend after being struck by a vehicle.
South Carolina Highway Patrol spokesman Bill Rhyne tells media outlets 16-year-old Shakira Shylen Hampton was sitting in the roadway on State 81 around 6:30 a.m. Saturday when she was struck by a 2015 Chevrolet Cruz.
Coroner's office officials say Hampton had been interfering with traffic and causing vehicles to move around her at times.

Oconee County Coroner Karl Addis said in a news release that 21-month-old Jacob Smith McEwen was hit around 5:30 p.m. Tuesday when he ran out of the house as his father arrived home from work.
Addis said the father was backing his pickup to park at the home when Jacob was struck by the front passenger side tire.

TAYLORS, S.C. (AP) — Officials have identified two people killed in a two-car wreck in northern South Carolina.
The South Carolina Highway Patrol said the wreck happened around 9 a.m. Tuesday on a road about 2 miles (3 kilometers) south of Greer.
The Greenville County Coroner's Office said the victims were 21-year-old Austin Taylor Buice and 56-year-old Dawn Taylor Epps, both of Taylors.

Spartanburg County Coroner Charles Clevenger said in a news release that Landon Bryce Holcombe of Woodruff died around 3:30 p.m. Monday.
The South Carolina Highway Patrol told news outlets that 26-year-old Joseph David Holcombe was driving the truck. No charges have been filed.

ANDERSON, S.C. (AP) — The South Carolina Highway Patrol says a man was killed when the riding lawn mower he was on was hit by a car.
Lance Cpl. Gary Miller told news outlets said a car was traveling east on Belton Honea Path Highway 6 a.m. around Sunday when it hit a riding mower stopped in the eastbound lane.
Miller said the driver and passenger in the car were injured and taken to the hospital.

FAIR PLAY, S.C. (AP) — The South Carolina Highway Patrol says a sheriff's deputy suffered only minor injuries in a wreck along Interstate 85.
News outlets reported the wreck happened around 12:15 p.m. Monday between Townville and Fair Play not far from the South Carolina-Georgia state line.

Florence City Council chooses to increase wrecker towing rates
FLORENCE, S.C. – The Florence City Council is updating its wrecker policy and rates will increase for towing.
Prior to Monday, the city had not updated its wrecker and storage fee schedule for several years. The council approved a resolution to update the city’s policy and adopt the wrecker and storage fee schedule developed and revised annually by the South Carolina Highway Patrol.
Clearwater man pleads guilty to fatal hit-and-run involving DOT workers, gets 25 years
The Clearwater man charged with killing two S.C. DOT workers in Aiken County in a fatal hit-and-run last year pleaded guilty Friday afternoon and was sentenced to 25 years in prison.
Lonnie Dean Miller, 30, pleaded guilty Friday to the charges of two counts of reckless homicide, two counts of a hit-and-run involving death and one count of a hit-and-run involving minor injury.

Florence County Coroner Keith von Lutcken identified the victim as Mikaele Krishan Matthews.

LAURENS, S.C. (AP) — Three high school students were among four people killed when their pickup truck hit an oncoming car head-on in South Carolina.
The South Carolina Highway Patrol said it happened around 11:30 a.m. Sunday on U.S. 221 in Laurens County.
Patrol Cpl. Bill Rhyne said the teens were in a pickup truck that crossed the centerline and hit a car.
Coroner identifies 5 killed in South Carolina wreck
DARLINGTON, S.C. (AP) — Officials have released the names of the five people who died in a weekend wreck in South Carolina.
The South Carolina Highway Patrol said eight other people were hurt in the wreck Friday night in Darlington County.
The victims have been identified as 52-year-old Leonard Rouse of Darlington, 14-year-old Nakisha Rouse of Darlington, 28-year-old Chikari Douglas-Rouse of Hartsville, her unborn child and a baby boy identified only as Douglas-Graham, also from Hartsville.

Five people killed, many others seriously injured in Darlington County wreck
DARLINGTON, S.C. – A single-car accident on Rogers Road in Darlington County has resulted in five fatalities, including two unborn babies, according to Darlington County Coroner Todd Hardee.
“This collision represents largest loss of life in a single collision in over 20 years in Darlington County,” Hardee wrote in a news release.
The accident at approximately 10 p.m., according to the South Carolina Highway Patrol.
HARTSVILLE, S.C. -- A Sumter County teen died Wednesday afternoon in a single-car crash near Hartsville.
Darlington County Coroner J Todd Hardee identified the victim as Lidia Velasquez, 17, of Wedgefield.
She was the driver of a 2005 Honda Accord that was driving on Kelly Bridge Road at about 4:10 p.m. when it ran off the road and into a tree, said Cpl. Sonny Collins, South Carolina Highway Patrol.
Six local members of law enforcement will be receiving an award for their bravery and courage during a special ceremony in Columbia on Thursday.

He was riding a bicycle when he was struck by a west-bound vehicle between 6:30 and 6:35 p.m., said Cpl. Sonny Collins, South Carolina Highway Patrol.
FLORENCE, S.C. – An 18-wheel truck that was carrying U.S. mail was involved in a single-vehicle accident Monday morning on Interstate 95.
Occupants were injured when the truck struck a tree. West Florence Fire Department firefighters were dispatched at approximately 5:30 a.m. to the accident near the 164 mile marker. Firefighters used the jaws of life to extricate the occupants, who were in serious medical condition, according to West Florence Fire Department Captain Anthony Fox.

Spartanburg County Coroner Charles Clevenger said the wreck happened around 6:45 p.m. Tuesday near Inman.
Clevenger said 18-year-old Eli James Cagle of Campobello died at the scene.
FLORENCE, S.C. – Most counties across the Pee Dee had a decrease in roadway fatalities during 2017 as did the state in general, according to statistics from the South Carolina Highway Patrol.
In all, 964 people died on South Carolina highways in 2017, compared with 1,020 during the same period in 2016.
In the six-county region that comprises the Pee Dee – Florence, Darlington, Dillon, Marion, Marlboro and Williamsburg – there were 99 highway fatalities in 2017. That number was 109 in 2016.
Mother, 4-year-old daughter killed in Christmas car crash
BLENHEIM, S.C. (AP) — Authorities say a mother and 4-year-old daughter from Georgia were killed in a Christmas Day car accident in South Carolina.
Marlboro County Coroner Tim Brown tells local media outlets 27-year-old Tyesha Terry and her daughter Mackenzie were killed in a crash just before 4:30 p.m. Monday south of Blenheim.
