RAPID CITY, S.D. (AP) — Authorities say a 64-year-old woman died in a two-vehicle crash in Rapid City.
The South Dakota Highway Patrol says the accident happened at 9:30 a.m. Friday morning on Interstate 90 when a westbound semi-trailer truck crossed into the eastbound lane and collided with an SUV. The driver of the SUV was pronounced dead at the scene.
The highway patrol is looking into charges against the semi driver. No further information has been released.

Man sentenced for stealing squad car, injuring trooper
RAPID CITY, S.D. (AP) — A man who stole and crashed a South Dakota Highway Patrol squad car and injured a trooper in the process has been sentenced to serve seven years in prison.
Authorities say 41-year-old Joshua Two Bulls was drunk when he was pulled over in May 2017 by Trooper Jake Dowling and managed to flee in the squad car even though he was handcuffed. Dowling was dragged but not seriously hurt.
4 semis involved in fiery crash near Arlington
ARLINGTON, S.D. (AP) — The South Dakota Highway Patrol says it's investigating a fiery crash involving four semis near Arlington.
The patrol says one of the four semi drivers has been taken to the hospital with injuries. The crash happened Tuesday morning on Highway 14.

HUMBOLDT, S.D. (AP) — Authorities have released the name of a Kimball man who died in a crash on the interstate near Humboldt last week.
The state Department of Public Safety on Sunday identified the victim as 54-year-old Mark Munger.
Authorities say Munger lost control of his Pontiac Grand Am on Interstate 90 while traveling across a bridge, slid into the median, collided with guard wires and flipped over. Munger died at the scene of Wednesday's crash.

SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (AP) — Authorities are investigating whether icy conditions played a role in a crash that killed a man on the interstate near Humboldt.
The South Dakota Highway Patrol says the 54-year-old man lost control of his car on Interstate 90, traveled into the median and flipped over. The man died at the scene of the crash Wednesday, a day in which icy conditions caused numerous accidents, including another near Beresford in which a semi rolled over on Interstate 29 and blocked traffic.
Police: Woman caught shoplifting stabs store employee
SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (AP) — Sioux Falls police say a 21-year-old woman stabbed a convenience store employee after he confronted her about shoplifting frozen chicken.
Authorities say the woman, who is a transient, tried to shoplift some frozen chicken around 8 a.m. Friday. The employee confronted her outside and took back the box of chicken.
Pickup driver killed in crash with semi near Brookings
BROOKINGS, S.D. (AP) — The South Dakota Highway Patrol says the driver of a pickup truck died when he rear-ended a semi carrying hazardous material in Brookings County.
The patrol says the 47-year-old pickup driver crashed into the semi on Highway 14 Tuesday afternoon near Brookings as the semi driver pulled away from a railroad crossing and had its hazard lights activated.

LAKE NORDEN, S.D. (AP) — The South Dakota Highway Patrol has identified the woman killed in a two-vehicle crash in Hamlin County earlier this week.
The patrol says 69-year-old Betty Knutson died after the SUV she was driving turned in front of a pickup truck on U.S. Highway 81 Monday, east of Lake Norden. The truck was pulling a trailer loaded with construction equipment.

The patrol says the man was not wearing a seat belt and died at the scene.
Man dies in single-vehicle crash northeast of Reva
REVA, S.D. (AP) — The South Dakota Highway Patrol says a 67-year-old man has died after the semi-truck he was driving rolled northeast of Reva.
Authorities say the man was driving Friday on Highway 79 when his vehicle's passenger tires went off the shoulder. Officials say his trailer remained in the ditch after the driver corrected to bring the semi onto the road, causing the rollover.
The Highway Patrol says the man died at the scene. Officials haven't yet identified the man.
State will investigate trooper shooting in South Dakota
VERMILLION, S.D. (AP) — The South Dakota Division of Criminal Investigation will investigate a trooper-involved shooting.
Attorney General Marty Jackley said Monday in a statement that the Highway Patrol requested the investigation following Sunday's shooting during a traffic stop.
Vermillion police were in pursuit of a suspect but discontinued the chase because of high speeds in a residential area. A Highway Patrol trooper located the suspect's vehicle a short time later and made a stop.
Arrest warrant issued for driver in fatal crash
SISSETON, S.D. (AP) — The South Dakota Highway Patrol says an arrest warrant has been issued for Watertown man suspected of causing a crash that killed one man and injured another.
The patrol says evidence shows the 52-year-old man was driving an SUV that went into a ditch and rolled over near Sisseton on Sept. 4. The driver has not been seen since the crash that killed 73-year-old Dennis Brant of Peever and injured 50-year-old David Keeble of Sisseton.
Semi rollover in Gregory County kills passenger
BONESTEEL, S.D. (AP) — Authorities say a 36-year-old man died in a single-vehicle crash east of Bonesteel, in Gregory County.
The South Dakota Highway Patrol says Jagdish Singh, of Edmonton, Alberta, was a passenger in 2014 semi-trailer that lost control Friday on a curve on U.S. Highway 281. The semi and trailer rolled into the ditch.
Singh was thrown from the truck. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

DELMONT, S.D. (AP) — Authorities say a 28-year-old man died following a rollover crash in southeast South Dakota.
The South Dakota Highway patrol says the crash happened Friday night on U.S. Highway 18 near Delmont.

Highway Patrol teams up with tribe to enforce weekend powwow
FORT THOMPSON, S.D. (AP) — The Crow Creek Sioux tribe is teaming up with the South Dakota Highway Patrol to enforce this weekend's Crow Creek Dakota Nation powwow.
The tribe invited the patrol to help enforce tribal laws during the event Friday through Sunday. The process involves troopers being sworn in after a training and orientation program. The tribe and the state also signed a memorandum of understanding for the operation.
Victim of Corson County crash identified
MOBRIDGE, S.D. (AP) — The South Dakota Highway Patrol has identified a woman killed in a weekend crash in Corson County.
The patrol said Wednesday 51-year-old Lorraine Iron Thunder, of McLaughlin, suffered fatal injuries when her car went off U.S. Highway 12 about 10 miles west of Mobridge and rolled in the ditch several times. She died at the scene shortly before 3 a.m. Saturday.

MITCHELL, S.D. (AP) — Authorities say a woman has died after her car was rear-ended on Interstate 90 near Mitchell.
The South Dakota Highway Patrol says the 76-year-old driver had slowed down Monday because of a crash up ahead. The patrol says a pickup truck struck her car from behind and pushed it into a third vehicle.
The woman died at the scene. The pickup driver was taken to a Mitchell hospital with serious injuries. The driver of the third vehicle suffered minor injuries.

Patrol identifies man killed in Codington County crash
WATERTOWN, S.D. (AP) — The South Dakota Highway Patrol has identified a Milbank man killed in one-vehicle crash on Interstate 29 in Codington County.
The Highway Patrol says 39-year-old Robert Gerriets was killed in the crash Tuesday afternoon.
The Patrol says he was driving a car that went into the median and crashed into a pillar supporting an overpass north of Watertown.
Number of traffic fatalities up in South Dakota
SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (AP) — The South Dakota Highway Patrol says the number of traffic fatalities on state roadways is running 26 percent ahead of last year.
The patrol says 77 people have died in 2018, as compared to 61 fatalities at this time last year. The most recent fatality occurred Wednesday evening when a motorcyclist ran off a road near Black Hawk, the fourth death tied to the Sturgis Motorcycle Rally.
Drug arrests up at Sturgis Motorcycle Rally
STURGIS, S.D. (AP) — Law enforcement officers have made more drug arrests at this year's Sturgis Motorcycle Rally, but fewer people were arrested for drunken driving so far.
The South Dakota Highway Patrol says misdemeanor drug arrests from 6 a.m. Saturday to 6 a.m. Monday increased to 56 from 44 last year as the annual 10-day rally opened. Twenty-one felony drug arrests were made compared to 7 in 2017.
2 killed in motorcycle crash with semi in Box Elder
BOX ELDER, S.D. (AP) — Two people were killed in a motorcycle crash with a semi-truck in Box Elder.
A spokesman for the South Dakota Department of Public Safety says two motorcycles apparently riding together collided with the semi on Thursday afternoon.
Preliminary indications are that the two people who died were on one motorcycle. Two other motorcyclists suffered non-life-threatening injuries. The truck driver was not hurt.
Passenger on motorcycle dies in crash in Box Elder
BOX ELDER, S.D. (AP) — Authorities say a passenger on a motorcycle was killed in a crash in Box Elder.
The South Dakota Highway Patrol says a woman driving the motorcycle lost control while attempting to turn onto Interstate 90. The vehicle entered the ditch and hit a barbed wire fence. Both the driver and passenger were thrown from the motorcycle.
The passenger, a 62-year-old man, was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver was transported to a hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
BUFFALO, S.D. (AP) — Authorities say a 55-year-old woman is dead after a one-vehicle crash in Harding County.
The South Dakota Highway Patrol says the accident happened Saturday afternoon north of Buffalo. The driver was southbound on U.S. Highway 85 when she lost control of the vehicle, which went into the east ditch and rolled.
The driver was not wearing a seatbelt and was ejected from the vehicle. She was pronounced dead at the scene.
YANKTON, S.D. (AP) — Authorities are investigating after five people died in a two-vehicle crash in South Dakota.
The South Dakota Highway Patrol says a 12-year-old girl was also seriously injured in the crash that occurred around 1:20 a.m. Wednesday near Yankton, about 80 miles (130 kilometers) southeast of Sioux Falls.
A Yankton police officer was trying to stop an Acura Integra on Highway 50 when the car's headlights shut off and it crossed into oncoming lanes, colliding with a Nissan Sentra.
CUSTER, S.D. (AP) — Authorities have released the name of a woman who was killed in a crash between a car and a fuel truck in Custer County.
The South Dakota Highway Patrol says 73-year-old Lumeda Huber, of Edgemont, was killed in the accident that happened about 8:30 p.m. Wednesday. The patrol says she was in the wrong lane of U.S. Highway 16 when it was struck by the truck about 23 miles west of Custer.
Huber was pronounced dead at the scene. The truck driver suffered minor injuries.
SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (AP) — Heavy rains are causing roads to flood in southeastern South Dakota.
The South Dakota Highway Patrol says Highway 11 in southeastern Sioux Falls is closed from 57th Street to 271st Street for water over the road. The National Weather Service reports more than 5 inches (13 centimeters) On the of rain fell in that area.
In Minnesota, part of Interstate 90 was closed 7 miles (11 kilometers) inside the Minnesota state line because of flooding Thursday, but has since reopened.
Woman killed in Meade County crash
WASTA, S.D. (AP) — The South Dakota Highway Patrol says a 65-year-old woman has died in a traffic crash in Meade County.
The patrol says the woman was driving north of Wasta Tuesday afternoon when she lost control of her pickup truck on a curve. The truck traveled into a ditch and rolled over.
The victim, who was not identified, was alone in the vehicle and died at the scene of the crash. The patrol says she was wearing a seatbelt.
Motorcyclist dies in collision with deer
ELK POINT, S.D. (AP) — The South Dakota Highway Patrol says a motorcyclist has died in a collision with a deer in Union County.
The patrol says the 64-year-old man was westbound 5 miles northwest of Elk Point Sunday about 3:30 p.m. when the deer jumped into the road, colliding with the bike and throwing the victim from the motorcycle.
Authorities say the man was wearing a helmet, but later died from his injuries.
KENNEBEC, S.D. (AP) — Two people have died and three others have been injured in a collision between a utility vehicle and a car in Lyman County.
The South Dakota Highway Patrol says a 79-year-old man operating the utility vehicle and his 80-year-old female passenger were killed Tuesday night when they were hit by a car at a Highway 1806 intersection near Kennebec.
South Dakota swears in new US marshal
PIERRE, S.D. (AP) — A man who spent nearly 30 years at the South Dakota Highway Patrol has been sworn in as the state's new U.S. marshal.
Eighty-three years ago, Gov. Tom Berry appointed South Dakota’s first patrolmen to enforce traffic laws and provide assistance to the public. Gov. Berry assigned ten men to what was then called the "Courtesy Patrol." Each was given a car called a "milk wagon," a tow chain, a first aid kit and a gallon of gasoline. The new officers were assigned to patrol the 2,000 miles of hard-surfaced roads and 4,000 miles of gravel highways.
