Its 71-page report found the school, the oldest seminary associated with the Southern Baptist Convention, supported an ideology of bigotry and white supremacy after its founding in Greenville, South Carolina, in 1859.
Vice President Mike Pence gave an often boastful campaign-style speech Wednesday to the closing session of the Southern Baptist Convention's annual meeting, winning several standing ovations even as some evangelicals criticized his appearance.
DALLAS (AP) — The Southern Baptist Convention opened its annual national meeting Tuesday in an anxious mood as the denomination's all-male leadership grappled with the fallout of multiple sexual misconduct cases.
With virtually no opposition, delegates at the meeting adopted resolutions condemning any sexual misconduct by SBC ministers, urging more action to prevent "all forms of abuse," and encouraging abuse victims to contact civil authorities to seek protection and support.
DALLAS (AP) — The Latest on the annual meeting of the Southern Baptist Convention in Dallas (all times local):
About two dozen protesters gathered outside the annual meeting of the Southern Baptist Convention are pushing for three changes to church operations.
They say they want more inclusion of women's voices in the SBC and a database to record and track those accused of misconduct. They also want seminarians and others trained on how to address domestic violence.
ALBANY, Ga. (AP) — Leaders of the Southern Baptist Convention are expelling a Georgia church that was accused of racial discrimination.

Hoping for more than rhetoric, women and some male allies plan a protest rally in Dallas when the two-day meeting opens on Tuesday.

Southern Baptist leader resigns after ‘relationship’
NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) — The president and chief executive of the Southern Baptist Convention's executive committee has resigned following a "morally inappropriate relationship."
As a 31-year-old African-American pastor, the Rev. Philip Pinckney is a rarity among white and graying Southern Baptists.
But sometimes he questions whether he's truly welcome in a religious denomination that has reviled people of color for most of its history.
There is an adage in boxing that is so true: Kill the body and the head will die.
Pulverize the greater mass and the the head will say no mas.
Unions, operating optimally, work this way. If the rank and file are suffering and the executive branch does not not move to remedy things, the head is cut off at the ballot and new leadership is installed.
Last week we saw an example of this that most missed or just glossed over, and it is a shame because it bares watching.
The Southern Baptist Convention moved to denounce the "alt-right" white nationalist movement Wednesday, a collective decision that occurred only after pastors pushed back against denominational leaders who initially chose not to address the issue.
At their annual meeting, Southern Baptists agreed to a statement decrying "every form of racism, including alt-right white supremacy, as antithetical to the Gospel of Jesus Christ."
