The Old Man and the Play: Friend keeps word to Hemingway
WESTPORT, Conn. (AP) — When the 1958 film adaptation of "The Old Man and the Sea" hit theaters, Ernest Hemingway happened to be in New York City to watch the World Series and invited his close friend A.E. Hotchner to go see the movie with him.
LOS ANGELES (AP) — Patricia Morison, who originated the role of an overemotional diva in the Broadway musical "Kiss Me, Kate," starred on stage opposite Yul Brynner in "The King and I" and appeared in films alongside Spencer Tracy and Katharine Hepburn, died Sunday at age 103.
Morison died of natural causes at her home in Los Angeles, publicist Harlan Boll said.
With her long auburn hair and fiery blue-gray eyes, Morison radiated a sophisticated sex appeal.
Children have a way of calling out truths in their parents. They could be youngsters regurgitating ideas that they hear at home things that parents would not be caught dead saying in public. Or they could be adult children whose surprising behavior surfaces deeply buried anxieties and beliefs, as happens palpably in Guess Whos Coming to Dinner.
I sat at the open bridge in Morbihan one recent day, while a tug boat towed down the bayou. I knew it would be a while, so I did not resist.
I put the windows down, turned off the radio and listened. I fell back into another time, a time before the “new” 1966 bridge was built, a time when Morbihan was a quiet little community somewhat secretly nestled along the Bayou Teche where everyone knew everyone else and many were related and had never left.

'Bombshell: The Hedy Lamarr Story' traces the life of a screen siren with a head for science (review)
CLEVELAND, Ohio -- "Bombshell" would be a rather ordinary Hollywood bio if not for the fact that besides being a ravishing beauty, the Austrian-born actress Hedy Lamarr was also a scientific genius.
She first came to fame by appearing nude in one of her first films, called "Exstasy." She soon immigrated to Hollywood, where she would star alongside stars such as Spencer Tracy and Clark Gable.
