ST. JOSEPH, Mich. (AP) — A soldier at home in Michigan during the holidays was ambushed and killed by another soldier on New Year's Eve in a plot that involved the victim's wife, authorities said Monday.
Kemia Hassel, 22, and Jeremy Cuellar, 24, were charged with murder in Berrien County in southwestern Michigan. They're active duty soldiers at Fort Stewart in Georgia and were having an extramarital affair, prosecutor Mike Sepic said.

The St. Joseph Township Police Department said Saturday that the suspects were arrested in 23-year-old Army Sgt. Tyrone Hassel III's killing after authorities received a tip.
Police said no additional information, including the suspects' names, will be released until they are arraigned.
Judge approves settlement in St. Joseph police shooting
ST. JOSEPH, Mo. (AP) — A federal judge has approved a settlement of a lawsuit filed by the family of a man who was fatally shot by St. Joseph police in 2017.
Under a settlement approved Thursday, the parents of 27-year-old Jacob Fanning will each receive about $13,900. Fanning's two minor children will receive more than $223,000, to be distributed by their mother. Attorneys will receive more than $199,000.

St. Joseph Township police say Tyrone Hassell III suffered multiple gunshot wounds Monday night in St. Joseph Township, southwest of Grand Rapids. He later died at a hospital.
