Oliver Hardy was terrifying, inspiring for John C. Reilly
LOS ANGELES (AP) — Playing Oliver Hardy, the large comic with the even larger persona, was a burden that became a mission for John C. Reilly.
The actor had early misgivings about becoming the man whose legendary partnership with Stan Laurel is explored in "Stan & Ollie," which will be released Friday in the United States by Sony Pictures Classics.

There are lot of movies in theaters right now trying to grab your attention, and dollars, from big superhero spectacles and musical extravaganzas to awards darlings and wannabes. "He: a Novel" (Quercus), by John Connolly
Although never referred to by name, the he of the eponymous "he" is comedian Stan Laurel, who with Oliver Hardy, was half of Laurel and Hardy, one of the most successful and beloved comic teams in the early 20th century. With only the pronouns of he or him, author John Connolly reimagines Laurel in both abstract and three-dimensional ways, getting to the soul of Laurel, the comic, the multi-married, forever-in-debt-with-alimony and alcoholic.

"A clown needs props, but props are expensive," he said, "so I started making my own props."
