The State Journal-Register reports the facility that's home to horse shows and other events is now known as the Coliseum of Champions.
Minnesota State Fair board OKs nearly $20M in improvements
ST. PAUL, Minn. (AP) — The board of managers of the Minnesota State Fair has approved nearly $20 million in improvements and maintenance projects for the fairgrounds.
Of that amount, $16 million is earmarked for a major new exhibit complex on the North End of the fairgrounds and $3.4 million for maintenance projects.
The North End development is under construction. The centerpiece is a new facility with a 12,000-square-foot exhibit hall.
Historical society to receive $50K if museum removed in time

DOSWELL, Va. (AP) — The State Fair of Virginia had its highest attendance since 2011 this year, with 250,000 visitors enjoying the annual 10-day event.
The fair's owner — the Virginia Farm Bureau Federation — said good weather and improvements to the fair helped boost attendance.
Food sales increased 5 percent over last year, while carnival sales jumped 11 percent.
Despite delay, NC State Fair flirts with attendance of 1M
RALEIGH, N.C. (AP) — The 2018 North Carolina State Fair overcame a one-day delay and nearly topped 1 million in attendance.
The N.C. Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services said in a news release the 10-day event attracted 977,256 people, including record attendance on Friday and Sunday.
On Friday, the fair set an attendance day record of 109,396. On Sunday, the final day, the fair set a record for the day with 130,319 patrons.
South Carolina State Fair tops 2017 attendance despite storm
COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) — The 2018 South Carolina State Fair topped last year's attendance even though Tropical Storm Michael closed the fair for one day.
Fair officials said in a news release Sunday night that nearly 444,000 guests attended the 2018 version.
That's up more than 16,000 visitors from last year, even though the fair was closed Oct. 11 by the weather.

Hurricane Michael delays NC State Fair opening to Friday
RALEIGH, N.C. (AP) — One of the country's largest state fairs is delaying its start as the remnants of Hurricane Michael pass through North Carolina.
North Carolina State Fair manager Kent Yelverton said Wednesday the event won't open as planned on Thursday. Yelverton says the fair will instead open Friday morning and run for 10 days instead of 11.
State Agriculture Department spokeswoman Andrea Ashby said forecasts of heavy rain and high winds led to the decision.
