PARIS (AP) — An on-form Stella McCartney presented her first Paris Fashion Week collection since taking full control of her eponymous design house this year by buying the 50 percent stake owned by luxury giant Kering.
The British-American designer used her new independence to go back to her artistic roots on the runway Monday and spoke to The Associated Press about animal rights in the industry and fashion's fledgling steps to go fur-free.

MILAN (AP) — In a week normally reserved for men's fashion, the June edition of Milan Fashion Week closed Monday with a mélange of men's and women's previews for next spring and summer.
President of the Italian national fashion chamber, Carlo Capasa, said the shift is a response to "the challenges posed by the globalized and fluid dimensions of fashion," adding that the arrival of women's collections reflects "Milan's central importance in the fashion week world."

Gucci owner Kering to spin off majority stake in Puma
FRANKFURT, Germany (AP) — Luxury group Kering says it intends to spin off a majority stake in sports apparel maker Puma by distributing the stake to its own shareholders.
The Paris-based company said Thursday it would ask shareholders to approve distributing 70 percent of Puma's outstanding shares, which would reduce Kering's stake to 16 percent from 86 percent. That would permit Kering to focus on its luxury business through brands including Gucci, Balenciaga and Stella McCartney.

Justice Breyer, the fashion maven, makes a colleague swoon
WASHINGTON (AP) — A Supreme Court copyright dispute over cheerleading uniforms Monday brought out the fashion maven in Justice Stephen Breyer.
"The clothes on the hanger do nothing. The clothes on the woman do everything," Breyer said during an argument about whether the design of cheerleading uniforms can be protected under copyright law.
Justice Elena Kagan chimed in to say Breyer's words were "so romantic."
