Doeren: NC State WR Louis having season-ending ankle surgery
RALEIGH, N.C. (AP) — North Carolina State coach Dave Doeren says receiver Stephen Louis will have season-ending surgery due to a high ankle sprain.
The graduate student and a team captain was injured against Clemson and didn't play in the weekend loss at Syracuse. Doeren didn't specify Monday when Louis would have the surgery, but said he wouldn't be 100 percent afterward until January or February.
NC State wide receiver Stephen Louis in concussion protocol
RALEIGH, N.C. (AP) — North Carolina State coach Dave Doeren says receiver Stephen Louis is going through the concussion protocol.
Doeren said Monday that the wideout is "progressing" and "we'll see where he ends up" for Saturday's game against No. 14 West Virginia (2-0).
NC State’s Louis set to face Georgia State; Meyers uncertain
RALEIGH, N.C. (AP) — North Carolina State should have graduate receiver Stephen Louis back for Saturday's game against Georgia State. It's still unclear if fellow wideout Jakobi Meyers will be in the lineup with him.
Louis missed the season-opening win against James Madison due to a tight hamstring that had bothered him during preseason. But coach Dave Doeren said after Thursday morning's practice that he expects Louis will play Saturday after practicing two straight days.
Meyers helps NC State beat James Madison 24-13 in opener
RALEIGH, N.C. (AP) — Jakobi Meyers has offered North Carolina State quarterback Ryan Finley a simple suggestion when it comes to throwing his way.
"He says just put it in his area code," Finley said.
He spent nearly all of Saturday's season opener backing it up, too. The wideout had career highs of 14 catches for 161 yards, including two big third-down grabs on the clinching late drive that helped the Wolfpack hold off James Madison 24-13.
NC State beat Arizona State 52-31 in the Sun Bowl to finish the season with a 9-4 record (6-2 ACC). The performance is the Wolfpack's first 50-plus point game against a Power-Five opponent in Dave Doeren's five years in Raleigh and the first for the program since beating Maryland 56-41 in 2011.
‘Simple execution’ costs NC State in loss at Wake Forest
A fumble at the goal line, an interception in the end zone and mishandled, bobbled, uncaught passes... drops: "Simple execution, that was it."
Shawn Boone said the words, applying it to NC State's defensive failures, but it's the serve-all explanation for what the Pack (7-4, 5-2 ACC) lacked in its 30-24 loss to Wake Forest.
As the Wolfpack chased the lead on the road the entire game, tying the score four different times but never leading, the team was never as sharp as it needed to be.
Finley throws 3 TDs, NC State beats Marshall 37-20
RALEIGH, N.C. (AP) — North Carolina State's slow start had nothing to do with losing last week. The Wolfpack's strong finish had everything to do with finding a rhythm.
Ryan Finley threw three touchdown passes and N.C. State beat Marshall 37-20 on Saturday night.
NC State injured CB Stevens out for opener vs South Carolina
RALEIGH, N.C. (AP) — North Carolina State won't have starting cornerback Mike Stevens for Saturday's opener against South Carolina in Charlotte due to a lower-leg injury.
Coach Dave Doeren said Monday that Stevens was hurt while defending receiver Stephen Louis during a goal-line drill during preseason camp. Doeren said the original prognosis was Stevens could miss up to four weeks, but it's unclear when he'll return. The injury doesn't require surgery.
