WILKES-BARRE — For Steve Harris, eating seafood on New Year’s Eve is a long-standing tradition.
It’s been a part of his life for so long that he has trouble remembering its origins.

CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. (AP) — Macio Teague scored 20 of his 26 points in the first half and Kevin Vannatta scored 15 of his 19 after the break to help UNC Asheville hold off Austin Peay 82-79 in overtime to close out the NIT Season Tip-Off on Saturday.
Tyler Miller and Brian Winter finished as the champions in the First Flight gross division with a score of 125 in the Seven Feathers Turkey Shoot tournament, held last weekend at Oak Hills Golf Club in Sutherlin and Roseburg Country Club.
Ron Miller and Donald Hendrix teamed up to win the First Flight net division with a score of 117. The Second Flight winners were Alan Painter and Bob Reed in gross (145), and Glenn Mitchell and Mike Cermak in net (112).
A fast moving brush fire near Colville briefly prompted a Level 3 evacuation notice for residents on Gold Creek Loop Road on Friday, but the notice was canceled.
The fire, which has been named the Gold Creek Loop fire, is estimated at 20 acres. Several fire departments responded and four aircraft dumped water on it.
Department of Natural Resources spokesman Steve Harris credits a quick response by aircraft for slowing the fire’s spread.

Austin Peay rallies to beat Northern Kentucky 77-69
OXFORD, Ohio (AP) — Josh Robinson scored 31 points and John Murry put in 10 of Austin Peay's final 16 in the last three minutes in a 77-69 victory over Northern Kentucky on Friday in the Tarkett Sports Classic.
Murry's layup cut the Governors' deficit to 66-65 and his two free throws with 2:22 remaining put them up for good. He added six more free throws, Kenny Jones a tip-in and Steve Harris two more free throws down the stretch.

O ptions to pump Animas River water to Red Mesa for irrigation were recently floated to the Southwestern Water Conservation District, though none of the projects have funding.
The proposals would pump water uphill from the Lake Nighthorse intake to Red Mesa Reservoir, east of the La Plata River and about four miles north of the New Mexico border.
