Locksley presiding over No. 1 Alabama’s potent offense
TUSCALOOSA, Ala. (AP) — If Mike Locksley lacks the national cachet of other recent Alabama offensive coordinators, he does have the numbers — and quarterback Tua Tagovailoa — on his side.
He's not a big-name former head coach at a football powerhouse, like Lane Kiffin and (briefly) Steve Sarkisian or a longtime NFL assistant like Brian Daboll. Locksley's offense might still prove to be the best coach Nick Saban has had with the top-ranked Crimson Tide, which hosts Louisiana-Lafayette on Saturday.
Sarkisian loses $30M lawsuit against USC over firing
LOS ANGELES (AP) — Former USC head football coach Steve Sarkisian has lost a $30 million lawsuit that claimed he was improperly fired by the school instead of being allowed to seek treatment for alcoholism.
An arbitrator last week ruled in favor of the University of Southern California, saying Sarkisian concealed his condition from the school.
In a statement Monday, Sarkisian said he was "disappointed in the decision, but we will respect it and move on."

TUSCALOOSA — For the fourth time in 14 months, Alabama is in search of an offensive coordinator.

Size of support staffs gives Power Five teams big edge
When Alabama switched offensive coordinators during last season's playoff run, the Crimson Tide had an in-house solution. Steve Sarkisian, a former Washington and Southern California head coach stepped up from the support staff to help Nick Saban and Co. in the title game against Clemson.
Deep coaching ties between No. 6 Washington, California

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. (AP) — Alabama has hired New England Patriots assistant Brian Daboll as offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach, reuniting him with his former boss Nick Saban.

Falcons hire Steve Sarkisian as new offensive coordinator
FLOWERY BRANCH, Ga. (AP) — After only one game as Alabama's offensive coordinator, Steve Sarkisian is heading to the NFL.
To work with MVP quarterback Matt Ryan and the league's highest-scoring offense, no less.
Less than 24 hours after Kyle Shanahan left to become head coach of the San Francisco 49ers , the Falcons announced Tuesday that Sarkisian would be his replacement.
Former Clemson coaches now with Alabama confident in new offensive coordinator Steve Sarkisian
TAMPA, Fla. — Four months ago, Steve Sarkisian was ready to dabble in the world of television broadcasting, his football coaching career in limbo after he was fired at Southern California.
On Monday night, he’ll walk through the gates of Raymond James Stadium to compete on college football’s ultimate stage with a shot at a national championship.
Saban: Sarkisian knows the offense “inside and out”
TUSCALOOSA, Ala. (AP) — Alabama left tackle Cam Robinson doesn't think an offensive coordinator change a week ahead of the national championship game will bother the Crimson Tide.
CLEMSON — Ben Boulware first saw the news on ESPN as he caught a glimpse of the television on his way to watch film ahead of next week’s College Football Playoff national championship game.
“That’s weird,” he remembers thinking to himself.
“(But) then I kept walking and went to watch film. Didn’t lose much sleep over it or think about it too much.”
Kiffin: I could have coached title game if I wanted to
MONTGOMERY, Ala. (AP) — Lane Kiffin says he could have remained at Alabama as offensive coordinator through the national championship game if he had wanted to.
Crimson Tide coach Nick Saban, meanwhile, got testy on Tuesday when asked several times about how the Kiffin-to-Steve Sarkisian move would change preparation.
Badgers football: Justin Wilcox’s first season at Wisconsin a major success
ARLINGTON, Texas — Angered by the narrative that it simply couldn’t match its success from the year before, the University of Wisconsin football team’s defense not so quietly carried an extra ounce of motivation heading into this season.
The players weren’t the only ones with something to prove, however. First-year defensive coordinator Justin Wilcox was just months removed from being fired at Southern California after the Trojans fell below expectations in 2015.
Kiffin won’t miss getting yelled at when he leaves Alabama
ATLANTA (AP) — Lane Kiffin knows something about revitalizing his coaching career with a successful stopover as Alabama's offensive coordinator.

Sarkisian arrived in Tuscaloosa after Alabama's season-opening, 52-6 win over the 20th-ranked Trojans.
No grace period for Coach Clay Helton as USC opens training camp
USC opens against reigning national champion Alabama, and 11 of the 12 teams it faces played in a bowl game last season.
Despite what might be the toughest schedule in the country, don't expect a grace period for Clay Helton, who enters his first full season as the Trojans' head coach.
"At USC, the bar is set high, it's about championships," Helton said last month. "And if you don't like that bar, don't take the job."
Oregon fans may still want ’Bama someday, but USC gets ’em first.
The Clay Helton era officially kicks off when the Trojans face defending national champion Alabama on Sept. 3 at AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas.
USC, coming off a chaotic 8-6 season that included the firing of coach Steve Sarkisian and a Pac-12 championship game appearance under then-interim coach Helton, was voted second in the South Division in the preseason media poll.
