Howard, Hausers, No. 15 Marquette beat Providence 79-68

Sam Hauser scored 25 points, Markus Howard added 24 points and a career-high nine rebounds and No. 15 Marquette rallied past Providence 79-68 on Sunday.
"We were very fortunate to be down only eight points at halftime," Wojciechowski said, adding that he didn't do a good enough job preparing the team.
No. 15 Marquette survives Georgetown despite Howard’s injury
WASHINGTON (AP) — Earlier in the season Marquette coach Steve Wojciechowski claimed that 6-foot-8 junior Sam Hauser didn't really have a position. On Tuesday he got to test his theory out on the road in Big East play.

Markus Howard scores 53 as No. 21 Marquette tops Creighton
OMAHA, Neb. (AP) — Already one of the nation's most prolific scorers, Markus Howard outdid himself.
Marquette's junior guard made shots when he was wide open, shots when he had a hand in his face, shots while he was falling away, shots in heavy traffic in the lane.
When he was finished Wednesday night, Howard had scored a Big East-record 53 points, with 14 coming in overtime as the No. 21 Golden Eagles beat Creighton 106-104.

Howard scored 26 points, including 19 over the final 10:22 of the first half to help stabilize the Golden Eagles after a disjointed start in a 92-66 win over North Dakota.
Marquette beats No. 12 Wisconsin 74-69 in OT; Howard has 27
MILWAUKEE (AP) — Marquette is winning games this season in ways that don't have to do with hitting 3s.

Marksman Markus Howard helps No. 24 Marquette return to poll
MILWAUKEE (AP) — Markus Howard is quite the big shot at No. 24 Marquette.
He can rebound. He can find open teammates. He can draw extra attention from defenses simply by just being on the floor.
And when he gets going at the 3-point line, the Golden Eagles can be tough to beat.
The junior sharpshooter is a big reason why Marquette returned to the Top 25 this week. It is the school's first appearance in the poll since 2013, and the first time in Steve Wojciechowski's five-year tenure as head coach.

NEW YORK (AP) — Marquette extended its streak of reaching the Big East Tournament quarterfinals every year since joining the league in 2005-06.
The Golden Eagles barely did it this year to keep their chances of making the NCAA Tournament alive.

Marquette takes down No. 13 Seton Hall 84-64
MILWAUKEE (AP) — For all the attention Marquette receives for its 3-point shooting, coach Steve Wojciechowski would rather have his team attack the rim.

Coach Steve Wojciechowski announced the departure on Monday. He wished Cheatham luck as he looks to continue his college career elsewhere.
Marquette beats LSU 94-84 for third in Maui
LAHAINA, Hawaii (AP) — A lopsided loss to Wichita State in the Maui Invitational semifinals hurt Marquette. The Golden Eagles thought they could be competitive with one of the nation's top teams and didn't measure up.
The key was to regroup, find a way to win the third-place game and go home with two wins instead of one. A big second half allowed them to do that.

Strength in numbers: Marquette to rely on depth, tempo
MILWAUKEE (AP) — Coach Steve Wojciechowski looks at his deep roster at Marquette and sees strength in numbers.
Depth and up-tempo basketball will have to make up for a lack of height for the Golden Eagles this season.
One-and-done forward Henry Ellenson is now in the NBA. The rebounding and defensive slack must be picked up by a rotation that could go 11 players deep.
