STORM LAKE, Iowa (AP) — A father and his 8-year-old son died but two other children were rescued after their vehicle broke through the ice Sunday on a northwest Iowa lake.

Iowa officials confirm zebra mussels in Storm Lake
STORM LAKE, Iowa (AP) — Officials have confirmed that invasive zebra mussels have been found in western Iowa's Storm Lake.
The Iowa Natural Resources Department says juvenile and adult zebra mussels inhabit several lake locations. Officials say the mussels probably arrived on or in a boat that had been in an infested water body, such as the Spirit/Okoboji chain of lakes or the Missouri River.
NEWELL, Iowa (AP) — Authorities say a Storm Lake man has died after the agricultural sprayer he was driving was hit by a train at a rural northwestern Iowa railroad crossing.
The Sioux City Journal reports that the crash happened Wednesday morning, killing 33-year-old Kyle Drey. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
Buena Vista County Sheriff Kory Elston says the crash happened about four miles northwest of Newell.

STORM LAKE, Iowa -- Around 11:10 p.m. Tuesday night, the Storm Lake Police Department was dispatched to the 500 block of Superior Street to an in-progress assault.
Upon arrival of police they located 20-year-old John Garcia of Storm Lake and took him into custody. They also found 19-year-old Jonathon Andrade of Storm Lake lying unconscious on the ground suffering from injuries to his face and head.
STORM LAKE, Iowa -- Around 8:15 p.m. Tuesday night, the Storm Lake Police Department came to a residence at 309 Ontario Street in search of a wanted person.
When they arrived, police met with the occupant, 25-year-old Victor Montoya of Storm Lake and learned the wanted person was not at the residence.
But while at the residence, police allege they detected the odor of marijuana coming from the residence. They also observed an adult female and two children in the home ages 4 and 2.

Storm Lake Police were dispatched Saturday morning to 118 Oneida St. They were informed that several personal checks were stolen at this residence on April 10, and two checks had been forged and cashed in Storm Lake on April 11 and 12.

According to a press release from the Storm Lake Police Department, a female employee of The Boathouse, at 504 Lake Avenue, reported to authorities Saturday that the restaurant's owner, 63-year-old Gary Gaffney of Storm Lake, had inappropriately touched her.

STORM LAKE, Iowa -- A Storm Lake man has pleaded not guilty to having sexual contact with a girl who was 12 years old at the time.
Berden John, 18, entered his written plea Saturday in Buena Vista County District Court to two counts of third-degree sexual abuse.
According to court documents, John had sexual contact with the girl between May 1 and Aug. 31 and again between Nov. 1 and Nov. 23.

STORM LAKE, Iowa -- Around 8:41 a.m. Monday morning, the Storm Lake Fire Department was dispatched to 785 610th Street, for a utility pole that was on fire.
When the fire department arrived, they found the burning pole, which apparently was caused by a short circuit. The top three feet of the pole burned free and was hanging on a wire.
MidAmerican Energy cut service to the pole, and the fire was extinguished.

Lawsuit involving Storm Lake turkey plant fire back in federal court
SIOUX CITY | It's been more than three years since a Storm Lake, Iowa, turkey processing plant reopened after a fire shut down operations for several months.
The owner of a Sac City, Iowa, welding company has turned up the heat on the plant's former owner, saying in a lawsuit that Hillshire Brands failed to ensure that work by outside contractors inside the plant was properly supervised and inspected and that the plant's fire detection and suppression systems were inadequate.

STORM LAKE, Iowa | Overheated electrical wiring caused a fire that severely damaged a Storm Lake duplex Christmas morning.
The Storm Lake Fire Department was dispatched at 12:14 a.m. Monday to 524 Hudson St. to a report of a house fire. Upon arrival, heavy smoke was visible coming from the attic and second floor of the duplex apartment.
Firefighters located a fire in the attic space above both apartments and were able to extinguish it.
