The Latest: Pope, senior Muslim cleric pledge hope for peace
ABU DHABI, United Arab Emirates (AP) — The Latest on Pope Francis's visit to the United Arab Emirates (all times local):
Pope Francis and the grand imam of Egypt's Al-Azhar, the highest seat of learning in Sunni Islam, have signed a statement with their hopes for world peace and human understanding.
The two signed the document Monday night during the pope's visit to the United Arab Emirates. It is the first papal visit ever to the Arabian Peninsula, the birthplace of Islam.
We've predicted for some time that once the fight between pro-Assad Shia elements (Iran/Hezbollah) and Sunni Islamists in the Middle East wound down, Iran and its proxies would turn their attention towards Israel to achieve their longstanding dream of wiping the Jewish State off the map.
Israel has been attempting to slow the process by preemptively destroying targets inside Syria which threaten its security.

Vatican confirms papal trip to Egypt under study
VATICAN CITY (AP) — The Vatican is confirming a papal trip to Egypt is under consideration but that no dates or itinerary have been finalized.
The statement Saturday by spokesman Greg Burke came after Italy's state-run RAI reported Francis would visit Cairo's Al-Azhar, the leading center of learning of Sunni Islam, on May 20-21.
The Vatican and Al-Azhar recently restored relations that the Cairo institute severed in 2011 to protest comments by then-Pope Benedict XVI.
CAIRO (AP) — From his seat in Egypt, the leading religious authority in Sunni Islam has lashed out at supporters of abortion rights, sexual reassignment and globalization, saying they aim to "annihilate all Abrahamic religions."
