Steelers part ways with linebackers coach Joey Porter
PITTSBURGH (AP) — The Pittsburgh Steelers have parted ways with outside linebackers coach Joey Porter.
The team announced Friday that Porter's contract would not be renewed. The move is the first of what could be several coaching adjustments by the Steelers after Pittsburgh failed to make the playoffs for the first time since 2013.
Steelers’ Watt among several fined by NFL for QB hits
NEW YORK (AP) — Pittsburgh's T.J. Watt has been fined $20,054 by the NFL for his hit on Atlanta quarterback Matt Ryan, and the Steelers linebacker says he will appeal it.
Watt rolled into the right leg of Ryan during the Steelers' 41-17 victory last Sunday and was called for roughing the passer. Watt, who had three sacks and was named the AFC defensive player of the week, said earlier in the week that he pulled his hands off the quarterback and that can be seen in the film.
Watt’s fast start triggering “Blitzburgh” resurgence
PITTSBURGH (AP) — T.J. Watt is not trying to match his older brother sack for sack. Honest.
It's just sort of happening that way for the second-year Pittsburgh Steelers linebacker, whose six quarterback takedowns through the first five weeks of the season have him tied with Cincinnati defensive end Carlos Dunlap and Houston Texans star J.J. Watt — the oldest of the three Watt brothers in the NFL — for the league lead.
Steelers LBs Watt, Dupree make a splash after flipping spots
PITTSBURGH (AP) — On the surface, the Pittsburgh Steelers' offseason decision to flip outside linebackers Bud Dupree and T.J. Watt looked a little bit of a reach.
While Watt was steady and occasionally spectacular as a rookie in 2017 for a team that led the NFL in sacks, Dupree has spent much of his first three years in the NFL searching for consistency to justify the first-round pick the Steelers used on him in 2015.
Week 1 ICYMI: No loss for Browns, but no win either
Browns tie! Browns tie! Browns tie!
It's not a win, but Cleveland will take it after going 0-16 last year and 1-15 in 2016.
No-win situation: Browns can’t finish in tie with Steelers
CLEVELAND (AP) — When the ball deflected off T.J. Watt's left hand and fluttered to a water-logged landing, well short of the crossbar, there was nothing more the Browns could do.
Their 17-game losing streak was over. Without a win — or a loss. Nothing to celebrate.
Well, the Browns didn’t lose, tying Steelers 21-21
CLEVELAND (AP) — Well, the Browns didn't lose.
Cleveland ended its 17-game losing streak on Sunday with a 21-21 tie against the Pittsburgh Steelers. But the Browns missed a chance at their first victory since 2016 when kicker Zane Gonzalez's 43-yard field-goal attempt with 9 seconds left in OT was blocked by T.J. Watt — who also had four sacks.
Browns don’t lose, tie Steelers 21-21 in sloppy game
CLEVELAND (AP) — One week in and the Browns are still undefeated.
Now that's progress.
Cleveland ended its 17-game losing streak on Sunday with a 21-21 tie against the Pittsburgh Steelers, who prevented the Browns from getting their first victory since 2016 when linebacker T.J. Watt blocked Zane Gonzalez's 43-yard field-goal attempt with 9 seconds left in OT.
Masontown company works behind the scenes to speed-print jerseys at NFL Draft
When the Pittsburgh Steelers drafted T.J. Watt last year in Philadelphia, another Western Pennsylvania team was watching the clock.
Packers: Amid injuries and inconsistency, rookies had limited impact in 2017
GREEN BAY — Mike McCarthy frequently talks about the importance of his players making a big jump from Year 1 to Year 2.
In the case of his 2017 rookie class, the Green Bay Packers coach will be seeking significantly more production next season than what he got from them this year — especially the draft class.
Four Downs: An inside look at key numbers in the Steelers-Jaguars matchup
The Steelers led the NFL in — and broke a franchise record for — sacks this season with 56. What might be most impressive is they did it while blitzing at a rate among the lowest in the league.
According to ESPN's NFL Matchup, for example, the Steelers blitzed just 14 percent of the time on third down, a figure it called "very low" and would rank as the lowest rate in the league for all downs.
Steelers close to team mark for sacks in a season
PITTSBURGH (AP) — Improved coverage in the Pittsburgh Steelers' secondary has allowed the defense an opportunity to make team history.
The Steelers have 50 sacks, which is five from the franchise record entering Sunday's regular-season finale against Cleveland.
"If you can get them to hold the ball a little bit and make them second-guess themselves by changing up the coverages and blitzes, then that really helps us," defensive coordinator Keith Butler said.
Steelers LB James Harrison — the franchise's all-time leading sack artist — was released Saturday, and RT Marcus Gilbert was activated from the suspension list.
Pittsburgh — Ryan Shazier's locker sat untouched in a corner of the Steelers locker room Wednesday save for one little piece: his yellow No. 50 practice jersey, which found its way into the hands and over the shoulders of good friend and fellow inside linebacker Vince Williams.
‘It’s just weird’; Steelers rallying around injured Shazier
PITTSBURGH (AP) — Ryan Shazier's locker sat untouched in a corner of the Pittsburgh Steelers locker room Wednesday save for one little piece: his yellow No. 50 practice jersey, which found its way into the hands and over the shoulders of good friend and fellow inside linebacker Vince Williams.
Now that he is on the active roster, cornerback Cam Sutton will have six weeks to make a contribution to the Steelers' rookie class.
He has some catching up to do.
T.J. Watt has started at right outside linebacker since the first game of the season. JuJu Smith-Schuster, if not always getting the starting designation on the stat sheet, is getting regular playing time at the Z and slot receiver spots.
Steelers’ T.J. Watt exchanges humorous Thanksgiving jabs with brother J.J.
There's nothing like family to bring people together on Thanksgiving.
Even if it means some subtle jabs.
Texans star linebacker J.J. Watt showed what brotherly love means Thursday morning, tweeting a screenshot of a conversation with his brother, Steelers rookie linebacker T.J. Watt.

Packers: Former Badgers teammates Vince Biegel, T.J. Watt downplay first meeting as pros
GREEN BAY — Vince Biegel is bringing back his signature mullet. The Green Bay Packers rookie outside linebacker and ex-University of Wisconsin star is growing out his flowing locks, resulting in an awkward, poofy ’do that, for the moment, is a definite don’t.
“It’s not something you can just break out. It’s a process,” Biegel said with a chuckle. “I think it’ll continue to evolve. But don’t be surprised if the mullet comes back.”
Packers activate rookie LB Vince Biegel, sign 3rd snapper
GREEN BAY, Wis. (AP) — Vince Biegel is one step closer to playing for the NFL team that he has rooted for since childhood.
The Green Bay Packers activated Biegel from the reserve/physically unable to perform list on Friday. The rookie linebacker was sidelined for the first two months of the season as he slowly worked his way back from offseason foot surgery.
Idle Steelers LB James Harrison ‘just doing what I’m asked’
PITTSBURGH (AP) — James Harrison spent last weekend standing on the sideline waiting for a call that never came.
The NFL's oldest defensive player didn't take the field for a single snap during Pittsburgh's 26-9 win over Minnesota in Week 2, the first time in more than a decade the five-time Pro Bowler was healthy enough to take his usual menacing spot at outside linebacker and just watched instead.
Healthy(ish) Steelers looking to avoid letdown in Chicago
PITTSBURGH (AP) — Two weeks in and Mike Tomlin's problems are of the NFL first-world variety.
The Pittsburgh Steelers are unbeaten at 2-0 despite not lighting up scoreboards the way they anticipated, managing just four offensive touchdowns through eight quarters.
The defense has been solid, though it has forced just one turnover and is still searching for its first interception.
Rookie running backs, linebackers make big contributions
Kareem Hunt, Dalvin Cook and T.J. Watt led the way as rookie running backs and linebackers made an immediate impact in Week 1.
Of the 266 rookies who were on active NFL rosters, 34 started on offense or defense and 13 more played at least half the snaps. Sixteen of those 47 players are linebackers and running backs. At least one player at each position started.
Steelers LBs Watt, Chickillo make instant impact
PITTSBURGH (AP) — The Pittsburgh Steelers spent the better part of four years trying to retool at outside linebacker, searching for the kind of players who could create the chaos that came so easily to James Harrison and Lamar Woodley in their primes.
Way We Hear It: Why did Dallas Cowboys pass on Steelers’ Week 1 standout, T.J. Watt?
Week 1 is no time to be second-guessing draft picks just breaking into the NFL, but it was hard not to notice T.J. Watt's sterling debut — and what might have been had he gone a few picks earlier.
ICYMI on NFL’s opening Sunday: Rookies most impressive
The rookies stole the show in Week 1.
After Kareem Hunt's record-setting debut in Kansas City's stunning win at New England on Thursday night, several players had impressive first games Sunday.
Steelers linebacker T.J. Watt, younger brother of J.J. Watt, recorded two sacks and an interception in Pittsburgh's 21-18 win over Cleveland. Still, he wasn't satisfied.
Watt’s Up: Steelers rookie T.J. Watt jumps into starting gig
PITTSBURGH (AP) — T.J. Watt is a quick study. Growing up in a household with two older brothers, he didn't really have a choice. Adapt or get left behind. Quickly.
Steelers Preview Capsule

No. 9 Wisconsin takes another hit at LB, Baun out for year
MADISON, Wis. (AP) — No. 9 Wisconsin has lost another linebacker with sophomore Zack Baun out for the year with a left foot injury.
Baun was expected to be a key contributor at outside linebacker behind starters Garret Dooley and Leon Jacobs. The Badgers were already replacing last year's starters on the outside, T.J. Watt and Vince Biegel, who are now in the NFL.
Packers: Former Wisconsin linebacker Vince Biegel raring to get going
GREEN BAY — Vince Biegel was watching. And, cheering. And if there were any pangs of jealousy as he watched his former University of Wisconsin teammate and fellow NFL rookie pass rusher T.J. Watt record a pair of sacks in his preseason debut for the Pittsburgh Steelers last Friday night, well, Biegel wasn’t letting on.
Rookie T.J. Watt’s emergence signals changing of the guard
LATROBE, Pa. (AP) — Pittsburgh Steelers first-round pick T.J. Watt will take all the preseason snaps he can get at right outside linebacker.
And perhaps most of them in the regular season too, a fact the man his is in the process of replacing isn't fighting.
James Harrison is the Steelers' all-time sacks leader, including a team-high five last season at the not-so tender age of 38.
J.J. Watt learns of brother’s big game from unlikely source
WHITE SULPHUR SPRINGS, W.Va. (AP) — J.J. Watt learned of his brother T.J. Watt's big game on Friday night from an unlikely source.
The Houston Texans star checked his phone after a team meeting to see a text from Grammy Award-winning rapper Kendrick Lamar alerting him to the T.J.'s work in Pittsburgh preseason game.
"It was the most crazy thing in the world," J.J. said.
According to J.J., the text said: "I see your little bro out there ballin'. Hope all is well."
Steelers take advantage of New York miscues for 20-12 win
EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J. (AP) — Watching T.J. Watt and Josh Dobbs in their first NFL game, Pittsburgh Steelers coach Mike Tomlin got what he expected from the draft picks.
They had their ups and downs, and they showed they belonged in the league, as did eighth-year linebacker Arthur Moats.
For nearly six hours Saturday, one of the most successful group of siblings in the game of football led a large group of Madison’s youth at the Goodman Center in a volunteering extravaganza that included packing boxes of non-perishable food for area pantries, building a greenhouse and more.
PITTSBURGH (AP) — The Pittsburgh Steelers have signed first-round pick T.J. Watt to a four-year contract.
Watt, a linebacker from Wisconsin and the younger brother of Houston Texans star J.J. Watt, was taken with the 30th overall pick in the draft. He is the last of Pittsburgh's eight draft picks to sign. Financial details were not released.
PITTSBURGH (AP) — Pittsburgh Steelers All-Pro running back Le'Veon Bell skipped the first day of the team's minicamp on Tuesday.
Bell is recovering from offseason groin surgery and has yet to sign his one-year tender after the Steelers placed a franchise tag on him in March.
Coach Mike Tomlin called it a "waste of time" to discuss Bell's absence. The team wraps up minicamp on Thursday.
Steelers sign 2nd round pick Juju Smith-Schuster
PITTSBURGH (AP) — The Pittsburgh Steelers have signed second-round pick Juju Smith-Schuster to a four-year deal.
Financial details were not released. The Steelers took the wide receiver out of Southern California with the 62nd overall selection in the draft. Smith-Schuster caught 213 passes for 3,092 yards with 25 touchdown catches in 40 games at USC. He is expected to fight for a starting spot alongside All-Pro Antonio Brown.
PITTSBURGH (AP) — James Conner is officially a member of the Pittsburgh Steelers.
The former Pitt running back who has overcome cancer signed a four-year deal with the Steelers on Thursday. Pittsburgh selected Conner in the third round of the draft last month.
Conner, who set Atlantic Coast Conference records for total touchdowns (56) and rushing touchdowns (52), will wear No. 30 with the Steelers.
Tom Oates: Selection of Vince Biegel does much more than just making Wisconsin and Packers fans happy
GREEN BAY — A little after 10 Thursday night, angry University of Wisconsin football fans took to Twitter brandishing torches and pitchforks.
The Green Bay Packers, a team with a crying need for an outside linebacker with pass-rush ability, were on the clock with the 29th pick in the first round of the NFL draft and one of the top pass-rushing outside linebackers in the draft pool, UW’s T.J. Watt, was there for the taking.
PITTSBURGH (AP) — T.J. Watt spent his childhood playing in the considerable shadow of older brothers J.J. and Derek.
The neophyte linebacker still very much in the embryonic stage of his career will get his chance to step into his own with the Pittsburgh Steelers.
MADISON, Wis. (AP) — Fairly or not, T.J. Watt will draw comparisons to his big brother when he gets to the pros.
Oh sure, he can speed past an offensive tackle and split double teams just like another former Wisconsin star with the same last name and similar skillset as a pass rusher.
But J.J. Watt of the Houston Texans is an NFL star with the ability to change the game anytime he's on the field.
NFL draft preview: Clay Matthews would welcome Wisconsin’s T.J. Watt as another Packers edge rusher
GREEN BAY — Could T.J. Watt be the perfect fit for the Green Bay Packers’ pass rush-deficient defense? The guy many draft experts are comparing the University of Wisconsin star to — Clay Matthews — seems to think so.
Badgers football: T.J. Watt’s stock rises as NFL draft approaches
T.J. Watt has been preparing for his future for quite a long time.
While every young athlete dreams of one day playing at the highest level, the former University of Wisconsin standout at outside linebacker took action eight years ago when he began practicing NFL combine events as a high school freshman.
It certainly paid off last month, when Watt’s draft stock began rapidly ascending after posting stunning numbers at the combine in Indianapolis.
MADISON, Wis. (AP) — T.J. Watt took off from Wisconsin early to join his older brother in the NFL. Vince Biegel's mullet is history at Camp Randall Stadium.
The star power at linebacker is moving inside now that outside 'backers Watt and Biegel have left the Badgers.
Badgers football: Wisconsin linebackers Garret Dooley and Zack Baun trying to bring edge
Each of the past three seasons, the edge of the University of Wisconsin football team’s defense has featured either Joe Schobert or T.J. Watt opposite Vince Biegel.
All three were true threats to opposing quarterbacks on any given pass play and they mastered the ability to set strong edges to help the Badgers contain even the most productive running games in the Big Ten.
Schobert was taken by the Cleveland Browns in the 2016 NFL draft. Watt and Biegel will likely join him later this month.
Badgers football spring practice preview: Wisconsin has handful of candidates to replace T.J. Watt, Vince Biegel at outside linebacker
In the days leading up to the start of the University of Wisconsin’s spring football practice on March 14, State Journal beat reporter Jason Galloway will preview each of UW’s position groups. Today, in Part 4 of an 11-part series, he breaks down the Badgers’ outside linebackers.
UW lost more talent at outside linebacker than any other position this offseason.
INDIANAPOLIS (AP) — Most prospects at the NFL combine are hoping to make a name for themselves.
Not. T.J. Watt, who is set to join brothers J.J., the Texans superstar defensive end returning from back surgery , and Derek, a Chargers fullback coming off a solid rookie season.
Packers: Mock draft has T.J. Watt picked by Green Bay in first round
INDIANAPOLIS — Assembling a mock draft before the NFL scouting combine is a risky proposition.
Many players rise and fall with their performance at the league’s annual evaluation event, their campus pro days, and depending on how deeply teams weigh into the free-agent market. Still, who can resist a little fantasy football?
This pre-combine mock has just one quarterback going in the first round, one player each from UCLA and USC, and a whopping five from Alabama.
Former University of Wisconsin football players Ryan Ramczyk, Corey Clement, Dare Ogunbowale, T.J. Watt, Vince Biegel and Sojourn Shelton are participating in the NFL scouting combine this week in Indianapolis.
Here are their on-field workout results and how each stacks up against the rest of their position group. Ramczyk, however, will not participate in on-field drills after undergoing hip surgery in January.

Linebacker T.J. Watt leaving Wisconsin for NFL draft
MADISON, Wis. (AP) — Wisconsin linebacker T.J. Watt will leave school early and declare for the NFL draft.
Watt announced his decision Tuesday on Twitter , a move confirmed by the university. The redshirt junior played in all 14 games for the Badgers this season and led the team with 15½ tackles for loss, including 11½ sacks. Watt made 63 total tackles and had an interception and two forced fumbles.
