Yates back as starter for Texans after injuries
HOUSTON (AP) — Third-string quarterback T.J. Yates will get his first start this season for Houston on Sunday against the Jacksonville Jaguars with Deshaun Watson out for the season with a knee injury and backup Tom Savage recovering from a concussion.
But Yates already has plenty of history with the Texans, starting nine games for them including leading the franchise to its first playoff win in the 2011 season.
Texans pondering what’s next after 3rd straight loss
HOUSTON (AP) — The Houston Texans were left searching for answers about how to turn things around after their third straight loss.
One thing they won't do is switch quarterbacks, with coach Bill O'Brien saying Monday that Tom Savage will start on Sunday against the Arizona Cardinals.
Texans sign quarterback Josh Johnson, release Matt McGloin
HOUSTON (AP) — The Houston Texans have signed free agent quarterback Josh Johnson and released Matt McGloin.
The moves come a day after coach Bill O'Brien said they had discussed the possibility of adding Colin Kaepernick in the wake of a season-ending knee injury to rookie Deshaun Watson.
Instead of adding Kaepernick, the former 49ers quarterback who began the protest movement by kneeling during the national anthem last season, Houston chose Johnson to be its third quarterback.

ORCHARD PARK, N.Y. (AP) — The Buffalo Bills have placed third-string quarterback T.J. Yates on the injured reserve list in making a series of moves before their season opener against the New York Jets on Sunday.
Yates sustained a concussion in a 13-9 loss at Baltimore on Aug. 26, and also lost the backup job to rookie Nathan Peterman. He became expendable after Buffalo signed Joe Webb on Monday.
Buffalo also cut defensive tackle Deandre Coleman on Tuesday.

Rambo was one of six players released Tuesday, along with cornerback Jumal Rolle, receiver Rashad Ross, running back Cedric O'Neal, guard Karim Barton and defensive end Jake Metz. The moves were made two days before the Bills close their preseason hosting Detroit.

Buffalo Bills sign Keith Wenning to plug banged-up QB spot
ORCHARD PARK, N.Y. (AP) — The Buffalo Bills have signed Keith Wenning to address their injury-depleted quarterback position entering their final preseason game.
Buffalo turned to Wenning because starter Tyrod Taylor and third-stringer T.J. Yates are both being evaluated for concussions suffered Saturday in a 13-9 preseason loss at Baltimore. The injuries left the Bills with fifth-round pick Nathan Peterman as the only quarterback available for their preseason finale against Detroit on Thursday.
Bills down to 1 QB with Yates in NFL concussion protocol
ORCHARD PARK, N.Y. (AP) — Buffalo Bills third-string quarterback T.J. Yates is being evaluated for a concussion, leaving the team with just one healthy signal-caller entering the final week of the preseason.
Coach Sean McDermott revealed Yates was placed in the NFL's concussion protocol on Sunday, a day after a 13-9 loss at Baltimore. Yates completed the game and McDermott wasn't sure when the quarterback was injured.
ORCHARD PARK, N.Y. (AP) — The Buffalo Bills addressed their quarterback depth by signing free agent T.J. Yates on Monday.
The sixth-year player meets the Bills' need to add an experienced backup behind returning starter Tyrod Taylor. Yates did not play a snap in his one and only season with Miami last season.
There might have been an odd symmetry at work Sunday afternoon.
Just a few hours before UNC quarterback Mitch Trubisky, a junior, announced he’ll enter the April 27-29 NFL Draft in Philadelphia, Miami Dolphins backup quarterback Matt Moore, subbing for injured Ryan Tannehill, was trying to make the near-impossible happen in a wild-card playoff game against 10-point favorite Pittsburgh in brutally cold and hostile conditions at Heinz Field.
