Thomas helps W Carolina hold off The Citadel 81-79 in SoCon
CHARLESTON, S.C. (AP) — Ashley Williams hit back-to-back 3-pointers to reclaim the lead and Marcus Thomas scored five of his nine points in the final 1:27 as Western Carolina held off The Citadel 81-79 in a Southern Conference opener for both teams on Saturday.
Desmond Johnson led Western Carolina (5-8) with 19 points, eight rebounds and eight steals — all three are career bests. Mike Amius added 12 points, Williams 11 and Marc Gosselin scored nine points with 11 rebounds.

CHARLESTON, S.C. (AP) — Alex Reed scored a career-high 18 points with four 3-pointers, Derek Webster Jr. had a career-high 11 points with 10 rebounds, and The Citadel went on a 28-4 first-half run in its 110-66 rout of NAIA Point University on Saturday.
Tariq Simmons scored 16 points, Quayson Williams had 13, and Kaelon Harris added 10 with a career-high six assists for the Bulldogs (5-6). The Citadel never trailed, forced 31 turnovers and made a season-high 12 3-pointers.

CHARLESTON, S.C. (AP) — Frankie Johnson scored 15 points with five assists, Kaelon Harris made a go-ahead 3-pointer in the closing seconds, and The Citadel finished with an 11-2 run to beat James Madison 84-82 on Tuesday night.
The Citadel trailed 80-73 with 2:55 left. Johnson banked in a 3-pointer to close to 82-81 with 47 seconds left, Derek Webster Jr. drew a charge on the other end and Harris hit a 3 with 22 seconds left.

CHARLESTON, S.C. (AP) — Zane Najdawi made 12 of 15 from the field and scored 28 points and Tariq Simmons had 16 points, a career-high seven rebounds, four assists and four steals to help The Citadel beat Trinity Baptist 116-66 on Tuesday night.
Kaelon Harris and Hayden Brown scored 11 points apiece for The Citadel (3-2). Frankie Johnson added nine points and five steals, while Preston Parks finished with eight points, a career-high tying nine assists and four steals.

BLACKSBURG, Va. — Citadel freshmen Tariq Simmons and Hayden Brown scored 22 points each, but it wasn't nearly enough as Virginia Tech ran to a 132-93 victory Sunday night at Cassell Coliseum.
It was the most points scord by the Hokies under basketball coach Buzz Williams, now in his fifth season at Virginia Tech.

Citadel basketball fans got their first look at coach Duggar Baucom's third Bulldogs team Friday, as Preston Parks scored 20 points to lead The Citadel to a 122-98 win over Coker in an exhibition game at McAlister Field House.
Parks, the Southern Conference freshman of the year last season, hit 8 of 10 shots and 3 of 4 from 3-point range. Junior forward Zane Najdawi was 6 of 8 and hit all three of his 3-point shots for 16 points as The Citadel made 17 of 39 (43.6 percent) from 3-point range.
