WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. (AP) — Eighth-seeded Steve Johnson advanced to the Winston-Salem Open final Friday night, beating second-seeded Pablo Carreno Busta of Spain 6-3, 6-4.
The 28-year-old Johnson will face Daniil Medvedev of Russia, a 6-1, 6-1 winner over Japan's Taro Daniel in the first semifinal in the U.S. Open tuneup event at Wake Forest Tennis Center.
KEY BISCAYNE, Fla. (AP) — Novak Djokovic's 16-match Key Biscayne winning streak ended, and his struggle to come back from an elbow injury continued.

Federer opens Indian Wells title defense with 2-day win
INDIAN WELLS, Calif. (AP) — Roger Federer completed a rain-delayed debut match at the BNP Paribas Open on Sunday with a 6-3, 7-6 (6) win over Federico Delbonis of Argentina.
On Saturday, Federer led 6-3, 2-2 when the match was delayed by a heavy drizzle 56 minutes after it began. Federer, who earned his fifth title at Indian Wells last year, saved a set point in the second-set tiebreaker and advanced to face Filip Krajinovic on Monday.
Isner wins rematch against Albot at Delray Beach Open
DELRAY BEACH, Fla. (AP) — Sixth-seeded John Isner overcame a slow start Tuesday to win his rematch against Radu Albot in the first round of the Delray Beach Open, 5-7, 6-3, 6-4.
Isner lost to Albot last week in the first round of the New York Open, and had been beaten in the opening match of his three previous tournaments this year.
Japan and Italy even at 1-1 in Davis Cup
MORIOKA, Japan (AP) — Yuichi Sugita evened the score for Japan to 1-1 by beating Andreas Seppi of Italy 4-6, 6-2, 6-4, 4-6, 7-6 (1) Friday in the first round of the Davis Cup.
Fabio Fognini beat Taro Daniel 6-4, 3-6, 4-6, 6-3, 6-2 in the first match.
In Saturday's doubles, Japan will send Yasutaka Uchiyama and Ben McLachlan to face Simone Bolelli and Paolo Lorenzi. Last week, McLachlan reached the men's doubles semifinals at the Australian Open.
Withdrawals weaken main draw at ASB Classic
AUCKLAND, New Zealand (AP) — American Steve Johnson struggled past Liam Caruana 7-5, 7-6 (4) to reach the second round of the ATP Tour's ASB Classic on Tuesday as the tournament's main draw was decimated by withdrawals.
Caruana, who was making his debut in the main draw of an ATP tournament, was one of four lucky losers promoted into the first round to replace players forced to withdraw because of injuries or fatigue.

Top-ranked Rafael Nadal came back from a set and a break down to beat Japan's Taro Daniel 4-6, 6-3, 6-2, 6-2 and reach the U.S. Open's third round.
It took Nadal a little while to figure out Daniel, who is ranked 120 spots lower and often plays on the lower-level Challenger tour. Daniel has never been past the second round at a major tournament.
ESTORIL, Portugal (AP) — Fifth-seeded Juan Martin del Potro beat Yuichi Sugita of Japan 6-1, 6-3 in the first round of the Estoril Open on Tuesday.
The former U.S. Open champion hit eight aces and broke Sugita four times to ease to the win in his clay-court debut for the season.
Del Potro, who won the Portuguese tournament in 2011 and 2012, will face American Ryan Harrison next after he beat Guillermo Garcia-Lopez 6-3, 2-6, 6-2.
Davis Cup: France takes 2-0 lead over Japan
TOKYO (AP) — Richard Gasquet and Gilles Simon gave France a 2-0 lead over Japan after singles victories in a Davis Cup World Group first-round match on Friday.
Simon beat Yoshihito Nishioka 6-3, 6-3, 6-4 in the second singles match after Gasquet overpowered Taro Daniel 6-2, 6-3, 6-2 in the opener at Ariake Colloseum.
Japan's top-ranked player Kei Nishikori has opted out of the tournament due to a busy schedule.
