Cowboys’ playoff trip to Rams is LA reunion for Tavon Austin
FRISCO, Texas (AP) — Tavon Austin's fresh start with the Dallas Cowboys wasn't much different than the stale final season the versatile receiver endured with the Los Angeles Rams.
The difference is that Austin has a chance to change the feeling — against his former team, in the divisional round of the playoffs.
Eagles right tackle Lane Johnson out with knee injury
PHILADELPHIA (AP) — Right tackle Lane Johnson is inactive for the Eagles against Dallas on Sunday night.
Johnson, an All-Pro last season, has a strained medial collateral ligament in his left knee. Halapoulivaati Vaitai will take his place in the lineup.
Starting cornerback Jalen Mills has a foot injury and was already ruled out.
Linebacker Sean Lee is among several injured players sitting out for the Cowboys. Lee has a hamstring injury and is expected to miss several games.
Redskins short-handed on offense against Cowboys
Washington's offense is without a trio of key playmakers for Sunday's game against visiting Dallas.
Receivers Paul Richardson (shoulder and knee injuries) and Jamison Crowder (ankle) are inactive as well as third-down back Chris Thompson (rib and knee).
They are three of QB Alex Smith's top four targets so far this season, with Thompson leading the Redskins with 26 catches so far. Richardson ranks third on the team with 16, and Crowder is next with 13.
Manning sees what Prescott knew: Dallas D looking disruptive
ARLINGTON, Texas (AP) — Dak Prescott was the first quarterback to get a good look at the Dallas defense this year — every day during training camp in California.
Eli Manning might now agree with his counterpart that this unit can lead the Cowboys in 2018.
Prescott, Dallas D lead Cowboys to 20-13 win over Giants
ARLINGTON, Texas (AP) — Dak Prescott accepted the challenge.
The Dallas quarterback threw a 64-yard touchdown pass to Tavon Austin on the third play of the game and the Cowboys sacked Eli Manning six times in a 20-13 victory over the New York Giants on Sunday night.
The Dallas defense was strong again, just as in an opening loss at Carolina, as the Cowboys (1-1) avoided the first 0-2 start in seven seasons under coach Jason Garrett.
Prescott, Newton face similar challenges entering opener
CHARLOTTE, N.C. (AP) — Dak Prescott and Cam Newton find themselves in similar situations entering Sunday's regular-season opener at Carolina.
Both quarterbacks are adjusting to a new group of receivers and playing behind banged-up offensive lines.

Tavon Austin starts fresh with Cowboys after trade from Rams
OXNARD, Calif. (AP) — Tavon Austin never really had a fresh start with a new coach in Los Angeles because of a wrist injury that plagued him and a hamstring that popped before the last of five disappointing seasons with the Rams.
The eighth overall pick in the 2013 draft believes the opportunity has arrived through a trade to the Dallas Cowboys and the health that Austin hoped would come with it. Having something to prove is nothing new for the 5-foot-8 hybrid receiver/returner/runner.

OPEN CAMP: July 26, Oxnard, California
LAST YEAR: Cowboys missed playoffs year after dynamic rookie tandem of QB Dak Prescott and RB Ezekiel Elliott fueled Dallas to NFC-best 13 wins. Elliott's six-game suspension during season over domestic violence allegations was big reason. Prescott's performance dipped after winning NFL Offensive Rookie of Year in 2016. Offensive line was less consistent than usual. Defense was solid but not spectacular.
Cowboys stress numbers over No. 1 at receiver without Bryant
FRISCO, Texas (AP) — Cole Beasley doesn't need a lot of prodding to bring up how much he thinks outsiders will overlook Dallas receivers now that the Cowboys have moved on from Dez Bryant.
The new dean of the group sees opportunity rather than uncertainty at a position that lacks a big name, and the history of big production that usually goes with it.
Rams get busy after slow start, add depth as draft concludes
THOUSAND OAKS, Calif. (AP) — The Los Angeles Rams made one pick through the first two days of the NFL draft.
They made 10 picks on Day 3, continuing their active offseason by making five trades Saturday, including sending wide receiver Tavon Austin to Dallas.
The Rams used those picks to address immediate needs at linebacker and improve their depth on the offensive and defensive lines for the future.
Post-draft Cowboys moving on without Bryant, maybe Witten
FRISCO, Texas (AP) — The Dallas Cowboys kept talking up the receivers they already had going into the NFL draft after dumping Dez Bryant in a cost-cutting move.
They ended up having to tout their tight ends as well when ESPN reported on the draft's second day that Jason Witten was planning to retire after 15 seasons to join the "Monday Night Football" crew as lead analyst.
The Latest: Cowboys acquire Jihad Ward from Oakland
ARLINGTON, Texas (AP) — The Latest on the NFL draft Saturday (all times local):
The Dallas Cowboys have acquired defensive lineman Jihad Ward from Oakland for receiver and kick returner Ryan Switzer.
It's the second trade of the day for the Cowboys involving a receiver, this time with one leaving instead of coming in. Dallas got Tavon Austin, the eighth overall pick in 2013, from the Los Angeles Rams for a sixth-round pick.
THOUSAND OAKS, Calif. (AP) — Tavon Austin is restructuring his contract to remain with the Los Angeles Rams.
The Rams worked out a deal with Austin on Thursday to keep the high-priced veteran receiver on their roster.
Austin got a four-year, $42 million deal with Los Angeles before the 2016 season, and he reached career highs with 58 catches for 509 yards. But after Austin caught just 13 passes for the Rams last season, the team explored a trade or a buyout.
Rams GM Snead has tough offseason puzzle for NFC West champs
THOUSAND OAKS, Calif. (AP) — Los Angeles Rams general manager Les Snead has to put together a complicated puzzle this offseason.
And he still isn't sure whether All-Pro defensive tackle Aaron Donald's contract extension will be the first or last piece to fall into place for the surprising NFC West champions.
IRVINE, Calif. (AP) — Los Angeles Rams defensive lineman Dominique Easley and receiver Tavon Austin have left practice early at training camp due to injuries.
The Rams didn't know the extent of the injuries after practice Tuesday night, but Easley left the UC Irvine field on a cart with an apparent knee injury.
THOUSAND OAKS, Calif. (AP) — After trading up to select quarterback Jared Goff last year, giving up a haul that included the No. 5 overall pick in this year's draft, the Los Angeles Rams were left as spectators during the first round Thursday night.
Happy Rams head home, disappointed Cardinals move on
GLENDALE, Ariz. (AP) — The Los Angeles Rams return home after two straight road wins, the latest a comeback victory in the desert.
The Arizona Cardinals move on from their latest disappointing defeat with a short week of practice and without starting quarterback Carson Palmer.
The Rams improved to 3-1 with their 17-13 victory over the Cardinals on Sunday, their best start since 2006, when they won four of their first five.
Rams rally late to beat Cardinals 17-13, Palmer hurt
GLENDALE, Ariz. (AP) — The move to the West Coast has done wonders for the Rams.
Tavon Austin returned a punt 47 yards to set up Case Keenum's 4-yard touchdown pass to Brian Quick with 2:36 to play, and Los Angeles improved to 3-1 for the first time in a decade, adding to Arizona's early season woes with a 17-13 victory Sunday.
After years of mediocrity in St. Louis, the Rams are 3-1 for the first time since 2006, tied with Seattle for first in the NFC West.
Rams weather delay, hold off Buccaneers 37-32
TAMPA, Fla. (AP) — Turns out the offensively challenged Los Angeles Rams are capable of getting the ball in the end zone.
Case Keenum threw for the team's first touchdown since relocating back to Los Angeles, and Todd Gurley rushed for two more scores Sunday in a 37-32 victory over the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
LA Rams sign DT Brockers to 3-year extension through 2019
THOUSAND OAKS, Calif. (AP) — Defensive tackle Michael Brockers has agreed to a three-year contract extension through 2019 with the Los Angeles Rams.
The team announced the extension Thursday.
Brockers is a key component of the Rams' defensive line, considered one of the NFL's best units. Playing alongside Aaron Donald on the interior of the line, Brockers had career-highs with 74 tackles and 12 tackles for loss last season.

Rams receiver Tavon Austin gets extension
DENVER (AP) — Wide receiver Tavon Austin has signed a four-year contract extension with the Los Angeles Rams.
The deal was announced while the team was in Denver for an exhibition game Saturday night. NFL.com reported the deal was worth $42 million with $30 million guaranteed.
"Tavon has been an integral part of our offense and special teams since we drafted him in 2013," coach Jeff Fisher said in a statement.
