LINCOLN, Neb. (AP) — A decade ago, billionaire bison rancher Ted Turner said his appetite for buying more grazing land in Nebraska was likely satisfied.
But now the state's largest private landowner, and second-largest individual landowner in the U.S., has surprised some people by purchasing another Sand Hills ranch, putting his holdings in Nebraska past the half-million-acre mark.

The two-time Oscar-winner held the "Eight Decades of Jane" fundraiser at an upscale hotel Saturday night. The event recognized Fonda's life achievements along with her foundation, Georgia Campaign for Adolescent Power & Potential, which she created in 1995.
The Atlanta-based nonprofit focuses on teen pregnancy prevention and adolescent health.

Bison enthusiasts gather at Ted Turner’s ranch to celebrate success, consider challenges
FLYING D RANCH — Tom Pierson may earn his living as a Bristol, Wisconsin, roofing contractor, but his heart is with a small herd of bison he’s raising.
“They’re just majestic,” he said. “I like coming down the driveway and seeing my herd. And they are very low maintenance. I have no handling facility and no veterinarian bills.”
The International Bison Conference will be held at Big Sky Resort July 4-8.
The event will include talks by some of the leading national and international experts on bison conservation, bison ranching and restoration. The group will also tour Ted Turner's Flying D Ranch outside of Bozeman.
The Polk County Historical Society had a special guest for their latest meeting, a man who knows all too well the ups and downs of politics, the news business and life in general.
Earl Casey, who is a recent retiree from CNN, spoke to the group during their March 28 meeting and gave a brief history of how journalism became what it is today. He also spoke about his time working with Ted Turner and for CNN.
Ralphie IV, CU’s buffalo mascot from 1998-2008, dies
BOULDER, Colo. (AP) — Ralphie IV, the retired buffalo mascot of the University of Colorado, has died.
The Daily Camera reports (https://goo.gl/MzirqQ ) the buffalo, which was CU's mascot from 1998-2008, had recently developed a growth on her left side and was suffering from liver failure when she died Sunday. She was a month shy of turning 20.
Caretaker John Graves says Ralphie IV "was ready to go" and she lived a long life for a buffalo.

NEW YORK (AP) — Robert Osborne, the genial face of Turner Classic Movies and a walking encyclopedia of classic Hollywood, has died. He was 84.
Jennifer Dorian, general manager of TCM, announced Osborne's death Monday. A publicist for the network said he passed away Monday in New York.
Magnitude 4.5 quake hits in northeastern New Mexico
CIMARRON, N.M. (AP) — The U.S. Geological Survey is reporting a magnitude 4.5 earthquake in a remote area just south of the New Mexico-Colorado border.
There were no reports of damage from the quake, which occurred around 12:30 p.m. Friday. The epicenter was about 17 miles northwest of Cimarron and about 90 miles northeast of Santa Fe.
Spaceport America to host 200-mile relay run
UPHAM, N.M. (AP) — Spaceport America will mark the finish for a two-day, 200-mile relay that will stretch from El Paso, Texas into southern New Mexico.
The race will begin April 8. Paying teams of runners will travel north along the Rio Grande, passing historic farming villages on the way to Truth or Consequences, New Mexico.
From there, they'll head east toward Ted Turner's Armendaris Ranch and then to the spaceport.
