CLEVELAND (AP) — Houston Astros manager A.J. Hinch knew Jose Altuve wanted to be in the lineup Wednesday night.
So he took the decision away from his star second baseman, who was involved in a frightening collision with a teammate in the outfield during Tuesday's game against the Cleveland Indians.
"I took it out of his hands by taking him out of the lineup before we got to the ballpark today," Hinch said.

CLEVELAND (AP) — Houston outfielder Jake Marisnick has been placed on the seven-day concussion list after running into a wall.
Marisnick was chasing a fly ball in the first inning at Tampa Bay on Sunday when he hit a fence and fell to the ground. He was removed in the third inning.
Marisnick is batting .286 with two homers and two RBIs in 17 games. Outfielder Teoscar Hernandez was recalled from Triple-A Fresno before Tuesday's game at Cleveland.
Paxton strong outing not enough as Mariners lose to Astros
SEATTLE (AP) — James Paxton was perfect through five innings against the Houston Astros on Saturday night. It wasn't enough for the Seattle starter.
Paxton gave up two runs in the sixth and the Mariners weren't able to capitalize on late chances in a 2-1 loss.
The Mariners and Astros are now both 78-70, tied with Detroit three games behind Baltimore and Toronto in the AL wild-card race.
Paxton (4-7) retired the first 15 batters before running into trouble in the sixth.

Wymore native Jake Diekman pitched on Tuesday in the Rangers' 10-7 win over Seattle.
He entered in the seventh inning with the Rangers leading 8-4. He gave up a single to Robinson Cano and a double to Nelson Cruz. Diekman then walked Kyle Seager, which loaded the bases.
He was then lifted for a relief pitcher, who allowed two runs to score. Both of those runs were charged to Diekman.
