STUTTGART, Germany (AP) — Roger Federer rallied to beat home favorite Mischa Zverev 3-6, 6-4, 6-2 at the Stuttgart Open on Wednesday in his first match in nearly three months.
The Swiss great converted four of his 10 break points to end a two-match losing streak and start his grass-court season with a win.
Federer hadn't played since March, when he lost to Thanasi Kokkinakis and Juan Martin del Potro in Miami and Indian Wells, respectively.
SYDNEY (AP) — Tennis Australia said Friday that Alex de Minaur has been given Australia's reciprocal wild card into the French Open starting on May 27.
De Minaur, 19, has improved his ATP ranking by almost half in 2018 to move to No. 106, nearly qualifying him for the main draw.
In January, he advanced to the semifinals of the Brisbane International and the Sydney International final before losing in the first round of the Australian Open to Tomas Berdych.
Khachanov, Zverev and Medvedev reach Monte Carlo 2nd round
MONACO (AP) — Karen Khachanov was clinical on his serve in a 7-5, 6-4 win against Thanasi Kokkinakis of Australia in the first round of the Monte Carlo Masters on Sunday.
The big-serving Russian had five aces and did not face a single break point. He might even have made the win more comfortable.
Federer loses match and No. 1 ranking at Miami Open
KEY BISCAYNE, Fla. (AP) — Roger Federer lost his second consecutive match and the No. 1 ranking Saturday.
Big-serving Australian Thanasi Kokkinakis, a qualifier ranked 175th, rallied to upset Federer 3-6, 6-3, 7-6 (4) at the Miami Open. The 36-year-old Federer had been the oldest No. 1 man ever, but he'll lose that spot to Rafael Nadal when the new rankings come out April 2.
"I deserve it after this match," Federer said. "That's how I feel."
Germany through to Hopman Cup final vs. Switzerland
PERTH, Australia (AP) — Angelique Kerber won her singles and contributed heavily in the deciding mixed doubles victory that gave Germany a 2-1 win over Australia and a spot in the Hopman Cup final against Switzerland.
Kerber beat Australia's Daria Gavrilova 6-1, 6-2 on Friday to put Germany within one win of reaching the final against Roger Federer and Belinda Bencic.

PERTH, Australia (AP) — Alexander Zverev and Angelique Kerber gave Germany its second consecutive win at the Hopman Cup mixed teams tennis tournament with singles victories Wednesday over Canadians Vasek Pospisil and Eugenie Bouchard.
No. 4-ranked Zverev beat Pospisil 6-4, 6-2 and Kerber, the 2016 Australian Open and U.S. Open champion, defeated Bouchard 6-1, 6-3. Germany also won the Fast4 mixed doubles 4-3, 4-3.
Australia beat Canada to open Hopman Cup campaign
PERTH, Australia (AP) — Daria Gavrilova and Thanasi Kokkinakis each won their singles matches to give Australia a perfect start to its mixed team Hopman Cup campaign against Canada at Perth Arena on Sunday.
Gavrilova claimed a 6-1, 6-4 win over Eugenie Bouchard, before Kokkinakis wrapped up the Group A tie for Australia by beating world No.108 Vasek Pospisil 6-4, 3-6. 6-3 in the men's singles rubber.
