CHARLOTTE, N.C. (AP) — Thomas Davis said Carolina's most recent loss could turn out to be a positive for the Panthers moving forward.

NFL draft preview: Can a rookie receiver fill Packers’ Jordy Nelson void? The odds are against it
GREEN BAY — The Green Bay Packers’ decision to sever ties with popular wide receiver Jordy Nelson last month didn’t just tick off their quarterback or sadden a legion of fans who so loved the veteran pass-catcher that they named their dogs after him.
It also created — or, based on their interest in pricey free agents Alan Robinson and Sammy Watkins — or exacerbated, a need at the position.
Carolina Panthers’ Thomas Davis tests positive for banned substance, headed for 4-game ban
Carolina Panthers three-time Pro Bowl LB and 2014 Walter Payton Man of the Year Thomas Davis announced on Twitter Friday that he tested positive for a banned substance and will be suspended for four games.

Packers rule out WRs Adams, Nelson for finale against Lions
GREEN BAY, Wis. (AP) — Receivers Davante Adams and Jordy Nelson are among six key players who will miss the Green Bay Packers' season finale against the Detroit Lions because of injuries.

WR Jordy Nelson misses 2nd day of practice for Packers
GREEN BAY, Wis. (AP) — Jordy Nelson missed a second day of practice with a shoulder injury, leaving his availability in the Packers' already short-handed receiving group in doubt for Green Bay's season finale against Detroit.
Leading receiver Davante Adams, who was in the concussion protocol following a hit two weeks ago from Carolina linebacker Thomas Davis, also appears unlikely to face the Lions after missing practice Thursday.
Panthers’ Damiere Byrd out rest of season with leg injury

About the Packers
The Packers (7-7) were eliminated from playoff contention last week after a 31-24 loss in Carolina, featuring the return of quarterback Aaron Rodgers, and an Atlanta win on Monday. Rodgers threw three interceptions, including two in the third quarter as the Panthers pulled away.
Vikings coach Mike Zimmer says keeping players safe from vicious hits is getting even tougher
As the Vikings travel to Green Bay this week to play a Packers team that wont start Aaron Rodgers and might not have Davante Adams, the propriety of certain hits in the NFL is again a hot topic of conversation.

CHARLOTTE, N.C. (AP) — The NFL has reduced linebacker Thomas Davis' suspension from two games to one following his appeal.

Packers: Panthers linebacker Thomas Davis suspended two games for illegal hit on Davante Adams
GREEN BAY -- Davante Adams was none too pleased with Carolina linebacker Thomas Davis after being knocked out of Sunday’s game and into the NFL concussion protocol by Davis’ blindside, illegal hit.
The Green Bay Packers No. 1 receiver even took to Twitter to vent.
Turns out, the league wasn’t very happy with Davis, either.
Davis was suspended two games Monday by the NFL for his hit on Adams, which came after an Aaron Rodgers interception as Davis ostensibly was blocking for safety Colin Jones.

Panthers defensive coordinator Steve Wilks counted 12 missed tackles in all — by far a season high for the league's No. 2-ranked defense coming into the game.
Saints enjoying good Kamara since drafting ex-Vols backup
METAIRIE, La. (AP) — By now, the rest of the NFL should have caught on to the fact that New Orleans Saints running back Alvin Kamara is among the top-performing rookies in the NFL.
Perhaps it only looks like Kamara is still catching defenses by surprise with his versatility and his shifty, slippery running style.

SPARTANBURG, S.C. (AP) — Panthers linebacker Thomas Davis called the latest medical report on brain injuries involving former football players "alarming," and said it's something NFL players are talking about.

CHARLOTTE, N.C. (AP) — The Panthers have signed two-time Pro Bowl guard Trai Turner to a four-year contract extension, keeping him with the team through the 2021 season.

CHARLOTTE, N.C. (AP) — Panthers linebacker Thomas Davis scanned the players walking off the practice field on Wednesday and joked, "It feels good not to be the old guy around here anymore."
The 34-year-old Davis was the oldest player on Carolina's defense a year ago, but now he's just one of many 30-somethings.
The Panthers loaded up in free agency on older veterans, banking on an experienced defense leading them to their first Super Bowl title.
